Any interest in track pads?

I may be able to get a manufacturer to make some brake pads for the M5. Any interest in track pads - harder compound with better stopping power for the F90?

Why not buy the Pagid pads instead?

Pagid makes the stock ones. They don't brake well from 150-70 mph. They are good but not great. The rear ones are way insufficient for track use as well.

The OEM p/n I posted are for M Performance RSL29 Endurance Track Pads. It's what we run on the M RingTaxi.

Have to source them from EU as BMWNA Legal won't allow them to be sold in the US.

Any hints on where to source? Doesn't look easy to do.

Thanks my friend. Would you say these pads are worth the cost?

These are nearly 3x the stockers. Are they 3x as good? I've used the RS29's before, and I don't know about being 3x these pads.

As a result of my inquiries, I now have the attention of a brake manufacturer. Track testing to begin soon, within a month if possible, within 60 days for sure. Pads are done, they just have to make it to the track.

I got the attention from a previous track car that they did A LOT of work on:

Hopefully coming soon, track and SQUEAKLESS pads.

I've used racingbrake before... a long time ago when they were first formulating their compounds. I got a lot of pad smear even though I kept going up the compounds (think I used three or four variants).

I expect they have learned a lot since then and would be interested in trying them out again, particularly a true track pad.

Do you know if they are looking into rear pads too, to match up the bite and torque characteristics (nevermind the over-active rears in MDM mode)?

[edit] Also just noticed you're in VA too. I'm NoVA, Annandale area. Where are you?

Interested in some track pads! Stockers are not up to the task.

Testing will be at VIR Audi Club weekend first weekend of November. Front pads are installed.

RacingBrake is already working on Rear Pads.

Let me contact the company before I give you contact information.

Are you going to be adding any additional cooling, or will the braking system be otherwise stock?

Based on my experience so far, the M5 F90 has the best STOCK cooling of any track car I have owned so far. Up until these pads, EVERYTHING on my car is stock, or a BMW M-sport part.

That’s great to hear. I am migrating from a C7 Grand Sport that I had optimized for track fun while still being a street able car. It had Essex’s AP Racing pro 5000r calipers on all four corners and I’ve never felt more confident in a braking system. The switch to an LCI F90 - which I haven’t picked up yet - has me wondering if I’ll ever feel comfortable tracking it given the previous platforms I have come from, C7 included.

If I can get away with SRF fluid, track pads in front and hybrids in the rear (so I don’t need to swap those out every track outing given the parking brake adjustment requirement), then I’ll be happy enough. I think.

Nice! Stock tires and alignment too? Am also hoping to see Grand Course to get a sense of how the heavy weight of the F90 handles the tighter transitions. Still, a helpful video - thank you for sharing it.

I tracked on stock tires and they were very good. My apologies, that video demonstrates the whine from Toyo R888r's, so not TOTALLY stock.

I have graduated to Toyo Proxes RR's. They are awesome. The R888r's weren't any better than the stock tires. Decent. But not great. The M5 comes with great Michelin's. I have used the stocks, Cup Sports, R888r's and Toyo RR's. The RR's are the best. The Cup Sports are second best.

I THINK I have the electronic parking brake problem solved. I haven't proved it yet. Tools similar to this one have been used. I got mine from Amazon.

I think this will retract the Electronic Parking Brake adequately without damage. I need to do it soon again. I'll get back to you.

That's fantastic news, thank you Shawn. I thought I heard a distinct triple-8 whine, glad I wasn't going crazy there. Good data on the tires, as I probably would have gone for triple-8's again given they were excellent on the C7. I like the idea of Cup2's and just streeting them all year. I don't do a ton of street miles. In reality I'll probably end up having a set of track wheels with dedicated tires though, so I'll take a look at the RR's which I've not used before.

Thanks again for the real-world data.

Don't get me wrong, the R888r's are fine. They just weren't any better than the 4S's (which are excellent, by the way). I was looking for a better grip in the corners. This is a HEAVY beast. It corners, but you will FEEL it.

My favorite moment, Porsche driver came up to me at the gas pump. He says "I saw grandma's 528i come out of the corner way behind me, and I said hmmm. When I had a rear view mirror full of car, I noticed that OH, that's an M5. Well then. I shouldn't feel so bad getting passed".

Hahaha love that quote!

But yeah, that "you will FEEL it" comment is exactly what I'm a little saddened to think about, as I am expecting it. My track platform history has been one of gradually lightening weight and not necessarily prodigious power. Not exactly the definition of the M5!

But I'm not going to complain either, I feel blessed as should anyone who can afford to own let alone track one of these beasts. I'll make the most of it!

I can keep with a spec Miata in two to three corners. But I have NO HOPE of passing it without a straight section. Make it five to six corners? Gone. Bye Bye Miata.
