Wheel Choice 863m or 789m

I have to make a decision on wheels for Donnington Grey M5C order. I am trying to decide between 789m Y-spoke competition wheel and the 863m. The 789m has the gloss black color which matches the black trim on the competition. As for the 863m it is different than what most have, but I am not sure how the ferrit grey with matt finish of the 863m will go with Donnington.

Please provide your opinions and if anyone has any pictures of Donnington with the 863m that would me great.

I've got a 2021 M5C that I received back on 12/23. Donnington Grey, Aragon, and with the the 863m black wheels. I love it. you may want to look here: https://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1760615

The 863m rims are relatively cheap in Germany, 30% less compared to the 789m.
I really like the sportive "decorative wheel rim stripes look" on the 789mīs.

Cheers,
Mike

I do not have the weight, but I believe someone posted they are lighter than the 789m.

Those wheels look awkward to clean, good luck with your choice.

I'm facing a similar (difficult) choice. I'm ordering a Bluestone Metallic M5C, which I think looks great with the gloss black 706M wheels, but the 789M wheels are a better wheel (forged, lighter). And I LOVE the look of the 863M wheels. Joe Achilles has an M5C review where he zooms in on the 863M wheels and says that he's never seen such great looking wheels before.

I personally think the 863M wheels might look better against a darker exterior paint, such as the Marina Bay Blue pics, up above, while the 789Ms look good against both light and dark exterior paint because they are bi-color. I myself will probably go with the black 706M wheels, because these wheels match the gloss back trim of the M5C and provide nice contrast against the Bluestone exterior.

Question for you: are you ordering the 863Ms separately? I asked my dealer if I could order my M5C with the 863Ms, and he said no - I'd have to order them as an add-on option (and then presumably sell whatever wheels come with my car).

My sales person sent me an email a couple of days ago telling me I could get them with the car. This was a surprise because everything else I ask for I am told it is not available. He was supposed to check of the price difference and get back with me. I have not heard back yet. I was surprised he said I could change from the 789m I selected because my vehicle rolled off the assembly line today .
I think you are right about the 789m being a better choice for lighter cars. So I will probably stick with them.

That's very interesting re: your being able to get your vehicle delivered with the 863Ms. Might be your dealer willing to work with you by ordering the 863M wheels separately and installing them on your car.

I am going to go with the 789m wheels. I think it would be cheaper to just order the 863m online and install them myself, but I will get the tire and wheel protection package when I get the car so I probably will just stick with the 789m for the long haul.

Nice Boiler Up. Are you going to mount them soon? I am happy with the 789m wheels. I think they look great against the M5C black exterior trim pieces. Anyways I would like to see them on your car.

Me too! My car was dispatched from the factory earlier this week, so I'm still at least 8 weeks away from delivery

I'm hoping that my car arrives with Michelin tires so that I can transfer them to the 863m. I'm also considering a few alternate options for tires, namely Michelin Sport Cup 2s and Toyo Proxes 888Rs. Decisions, decisions...

I am having the same dillema at the moment. Are there any more photos or videos people can post up. I think I like the 863M only because they are different to what everybody else has, not because they are a better looking wheel, which if I am honest the 789M is.

I am going through a similar dilemma. Anyone got pics of both on Azurite Black?
