1200 mile break in period HP restrictions?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hey guys, need some help and knowledge about the first 1200 mile break in period.

I finally hit 1200 miles and brought in to the dealer for service. Service guy told me that after this service is done, I'd be able to really enjoy the car. He also stated that the car had been restricted to about 70% horse power during this period. Is this fact or was he blowing smoke up my ear?

He is blowing smoke up your ear ??
I have owned multiple M cars and this topic always comes up . It is a myth.
having said , German engines will loosen up after few thousand miles , so you will notice slightly more difference down the line .

UGH! This is such BS.

I recommend the mods to post a stickie with the subject line "there is no extra HP after break-in service"

OP, search the forum. I guarantee you will find multiple posts from hard core experts, including responses from BMW, calling BS.

The previous two posters are correct. There is no magic switch that they flip. There is nothing that the dealer does that changes any software restrictions, speed restrictions, horsepower, or RPM limits. It was just up to you to follow the break in limits.

Every car is built differently. Due to the V8, the weight, and any other major differences from your previous car, the post break in period is miraculous.

I would agree that there is no magically "unlocking" of power, rather, the respect and time needed to make the relationship between the car and your daily driving patterns.

I just had my break in service completed less than a week ago, and I will say- that it is INCREDIBLE what the car feels like now that I don't have to shift before 5k RPM. This car, and motor, in comparison to my outgoing M4- are just worlds apart. All of the power hits you at the 5k range and sends you back into the seat instantaneously

If you followed the prescribed factory break-in procedure you would not know that you are unable to go beyond 6,000 rpm until after the 1,200 mile service is performed.

Just ask him to show you the Run In Service documentation that shows that the ECU is adjusted during the 1200 service to "unlock" more power. Lol.

Bet money that it doesn't exist. It's a guaranteed win for you.
