I'm more of a 4 door car guy, I would choose the M5 over the M8. It really depends on your usage needs. If you do not need the extra 2 doors and some extra cash for the M8 top up, why not? Life is short.

The aren't the same cars. They have similar "stats" on paper and share an engine; however they drive VERY different. Also the m5 isn't a convertible.

The m8 convertible is a league of its own.

The m8 gran coupe is very similar to the m5.

The m8 coupe is more race car focused than the 4 door family car of the m5.

The difference is microscopic, but it is there. Especially if you're on the track every weekend.

If you don't track, don't want a convertible, don't need the "look" of a coupe; then definitely save $30k and get the m5 competition.

"The m8 coupe is more race car focused than the 4 door family car of the m5."

Not once in all of my years instructing at the track have I ever seen an M8 at the track.

I wouldn't say that it's more race car. I'd just say it's a bigger version of the 6 series. A grand touring car.

I believe they reduced the MSRP some. I just did a build comparison with similar specs and it was about $15k difference.

Correct the new m8 were dropped for 2022. The old 2021 and prior still have a higher MSRP.

Only if your retarded. They don't look anything alike in person. If you saw them in person; you'd know how wrong you are.

Retarded is not a politically correct term these days. I stated my opinion after seeing the M8 coupe and the new Mustang in person. It is ok if your opinion differs. I won’t call you names.

Ignore him....he is known as the resident dipshit on the 8 series board.

I was guessing that by his screen name, which means “already been decided.”

Here in the UK an M5 Comp is the same price as an M8 Comp on PCP (Finance), at £9,999 down and £979 a month. I was just at my dealer pricing up a new M5 Comp, and the dealer offered me the same deal on an M8 Comp. Not driven the M8, and I wasn't keen on the looks at first, but it's definitely growing on me, and for the same price as an M5, it's a tough one.

I debated on an M5 but splurged and got the M8 convertible. Car is AMAZING and in my opinion (no offense guys) much more unique and exotic looking than a sedan that somewhat blends with the million other 5 series on the road and it doesn't have a sunroof unless you custom order it. I personally wanted something different and have only seen one other M8 in the Chicago area.

I added shadow line grill, spacers, tint, CF spoiler, painted mirror caps and front reflector. Also a Racechip and ran a 10.7 last weekend. Not bad for a tank with no roof. This car is so quiet and comfy for a drop top but as we all know turns into a MONSTER when hitting the M button.

I've owned 40 cars and none compare. Mainly do you want a sedan with a CF roof or a unique open air, soul freeing beauty!?

That's too expensive for a M5 comp. You can get better deals. I picked up one for £81k and they gave me an extremely good deal on my part exchange. Try carwow.

I tried CarWow, it's been a week and it still says cannot find any results, I'm not sure why. That price was with a contribution of £15,904. Are you on a PCP deal? If you are, can you let me know what dealer it was from and what the monthly payments are? I've only been to my local Williams dealer. Also looking to part ex a 2018 M5, only had it about a month, but I'm paying not too far off what a new one would cost on the monthly payments, without any warranty.

I personally prefer the M8, a luxury coupe looks much better then a sedan to me, i was going to get the one that had better lease programs and at the time the M8 came in $6-$700 less then an M5 for the same MSRP

That does not make sense unless BMW is subsidizing the lease or is guessing the M8 depreciation will be significantly greater.

Probably the latter. Certainly here in the UK, 8-series are being nailed heavily on depreciation.

I am not a lease person, but if a car depreciates at a faster rate, would the payments over the same period not be higher. Higher depreciation equals lower residual value, correct? Again I have never leased a car so I could be off.
