Paint color code for Black roof rails

I put my old Yakima rack up on my X5M. Unfortunately it didn't fit correctly (very old rack) and I scratched the rail. Does anyone know the color code for the rail so I can get some touch up paint?

I wonder if repeated rack on/off would kill the vinyl too?

That's my concern with wrapping it. I suspect it will get trashed every time I put the rack on.

i rather replace vinyl instead of roof rail.

roof rail is pricey and you need to drop roof liner to install them.

I'm not interested in changing out the rails. The scratches are small and only noticeable since the rails are black. One argument for the satin rails especially on a Donington Grey X5 like mine.

I ordered jet black paint (code 668). Will post the results.

Or buy the OEM cross bars. They grip the rails with rubber feet.

Just to clarify so that people don't interpret the thread incorrectly - the problem was that I tried to use my old rack (Yakima with low rider towers which also have rubber gaskets), which didn't fit. I've used this rack on many cars over the years, even a Cayenne with flush rails, but it just didn't fit on the new X5 and I scratched one of the rails in the process.

I've now purchased new Yakima towers and they fit perfectly. I'm just left with a few scratches from my failed attempt. Hopefully the touch up paint will fix the problem.

Thanks for everyone's input and I will update when I get the touch up paint.

Be careful. Its not paint. Its the same plastic high gloss material on the window moldings. I think its a plastic coating. Paint might look really really bad.

I finally got the Jet Black paint and had time to clean the X5M and try to paint the small scratches on my rails. As you can see in the before pic, the scratches are small but since they expose the silver metal underneath are quite noticeable.

There were three spots and this is the worst one. The others are almost invisible.

If you look closely, you can tell that it has been touched up but from a distance it is not visible. For me, this is what I was trying to accomplish..

So if you scratch your black rails, BMW OEM Jet Black paint can be used for touch ups.

Thanks to Alvinabed for the suggestion!

Maybe I that is why the old rack fit. Thanks for the clarification. The cayenne is gone replaced by a Macan GTS.
