Two Piece Lightweight Steel Rotor set
TLDR - I need lightweight 2 piece rotor recommendations. Labor Day weekend sale prices would make it even better!
Alright, I have scoured for the last couple months for F&R real 2-piece rotors. I found the Racing Brake setup for $3100 with their own pads. Their rotors are 5mm smaller but seem pretty insignificant. I recently went with EBC blue stuff pads on OEM rotors and when I installed the pads they were a little tight in the calipers. On my second bed in cycle the pads got hot and one hung up and get really really warm and has me leary of keeping these rotors on the cars the pads I had to sand some of the painted/powdercoat from the edge as it made the pad fit too tight. I definitely need/want new rotors. Thinking of running two sets of pads, a track pad and a street pad that I will swap out before we hit the track. With that said, who, besides Racing Brake makes a true two piece rotor for these cars? SHW does a pinned two piece (OEM) that has honestly done great. The dissipate heat and are genuinely great brakes. Just looking for that next edge and first hand experience examples would be great! |

I am unaware if Coleman or any others. I have a contact that has made custom hats for misc cars including doing custom hats for a 2005 excursion so we could run ginormous brakes and calipers due to what we were towing couple with 22” wheels and big tires. I figured worst case I can explore having him do the hats.

I will weight mine when they show up. The options available for machining seem beneficial even if weight reduction isn’t a drastically haven’t a more aggressive pattern should be.

I will shoot these guys an email and ask what that is all about. They definitely are not cheap. For the amount of money, you would hope customer service is at the top of the game.

Since Shawn tracks his car a lot and says stock steel or ceramic brakes both work well, the advantage of the more expensive true 2 piece rotors would be weight savings. Reducing unsprung weight does improve handling, but Shawn actually removed his light weight carbon rotors and installed much heavier steel ones and is not saying there is a significant difference.
The OP’s 2 piece aluminum hat and steel rotor ring combination is going to be closer in weight to stock steel rotors than to the factory option carbon rotors so even less of a performance benefit. |
