The red Porsche should have given me the signal to pass numerous times before he did. Especially before the toe of the boot. Should have stayed online to the left and let me pass to the right on the inside. He stayed to the right and waited to signal on the back straight.
This car is basically like taking a sledgehammer to a finishing nail on the track. That’s why I picked up a 2011 e82 stick with... 7700 miles this week. Not a typo. Still has new car smell! Nice little momentum car for the track. |

Excellent! Thanks for sharing. Just picked up my M5 so not even broken-in yet. Its sheer mass and ability to quickly consume brakes and tires does not make it an ideal track toy but I bet it’s still a blast. I’m looking forward to tracking it anyway at some point just for kicks.
I’ve got a few Qs: 1) street summer tires? how did they wear the whole weekend? 2) steel or ccb brakes and how did they fare? 3) What is your skill level and is the 2:18 your fastest time that day? Not trying to judge or anything but rather just trying to gauge what the F90 is capable of. I’m very familiar with the Glen having done many HPDE events there in the past with my old Audis, former E60 M5, former E92 M3, and GT3. Might take the F90 there later this summer to see what she can do. I absolutely love Watkins Glen. Dare I say I like it even more than COTA and comes only second to Road America as one of my favorite tracks in the US. Nice run!

My OE Pirellis rears were not able to pass inspection last Sept. when I first took it. Even with 5600 miles. I ran last Sept with Pilot Sport A/S. They did fine.
This time around, I put the OE front Pirelli back on with new OE Pirelli rears. Weather was a factor... first two runs of the morning, we came in with ice accumulation on the front. It was rough. Guys with slicks didn’t even go out. The run I posted was Saturday afternoon. Can’t tell how much better the OE performed to the A/S last year. Steel brakes. So I have four track days and a year of driving on the OE rotors and pads. Need new now. Cooked the shit out of them this time, and I’m sure you can imagine, the lower they get, the faster they go. I’ve been in touch with a rep in FL for slotted rotors and better pads, but like BMW, not much is available now. Will replace with OE. I’m middle of the road on the SLIP ranking, and I didn’t “time” it, but the car did. 😈 I could have done much better than the 2:18, but due to the inclement weather early in the day, and the dry weather later on, my line degraded in the afternoon as I was more focused on late braking on a dry track. |

It’s a sledgehammer. Expect rear brakes to wear out faster due to yaw control.
Basically get wide and use the whole track. Make up the extra distance with the blistering acceleration. Both times, I’ve hit 147 on the back straight before hammering the brakes at 200 marker into the bus stop. |

Join BMWCCA. They have track days over at COTA.
