Kidney Grill and side vents

Hey everyone,

I was hoping you could help with a small dilemma I have. My M5 is coming next week in Singapore Grey. However one thing has been bugging me is the front grill. As I’ve not got the comp version the grill is black but with a chrome trim. I’m in two minds as to ask the dealer to change the grill and side vents to the all black versions. What are you thoughts? (Just to note I’m not trying to make it look like a competition version, I just think it might look better. It would be great to get your thoughts)

The dealer will likely have to order those parts for you if you want them to install factory parts.

Or you can order these things from IND and have your dealer install them prior to delivery, or install them yourself which is relatively easy depending on your basic technical skill level. That latter would be a cheaper option unless you go with carbon parts.

Also, you can add black grille and side vents as port-installed options, though I’m not sure if it might be too late at this point if your car is arriving next week - is it arriving at the dealer or at destination port next week?

Some of us are upgrading to Carbon Fiber so you might get a good deal on used black ones, they barely suffer any wear and tear so a good set should be common here, ask around, I might even have mine for sale soon.

are you handy? you can do the grills yourself. not hard.

fender grills tend to be a little tougher.

black will look very good against the grey, do it.

+1 to do it yourself. It helps to avoid scratches if you have a set of soft plastic trim removal tools. Available on Amazon. Four piece replacement took me 15 minutes.

I have a SG M5C so it came from the factory with black pieces (front and sides). I would also suggest deleting the front and rear reflectors. IND can help you with all of these pieces as well as the soft tools. I installed the rear and front reflector deletes myself and it took about 30 min.

I also did this on two F10 M5's.

If you think the black parts look better, make the change. Not much of a dilemma, really. I preferred black grill surrounds and all-black side vents, purchased from IND and installed myself. As Jose suggested, I also went with the IND reflector inserts painted to match the body color.
Good luck with your choice,

Just get them installed from the dealer before you take delivery, that way it's one less thing to worry about doing later on. It will look good.

josec70 is right about the other extras from IND... They're a must IMO.
