Might be the wrong place to post but...
After owning this M5 comp w/CCBS, I’m convinced we need a new m1 built on the drivetrain. Think 760hp, Awd, mid-engined, carbon fiber everything you can, lighten wheels, gorilla glass, dry sump, multimatic suspension, transmission can stay, if it will fit.
Obviously, it would be a lot of work to fit what is basically an x5 driveline in a coupe, and not some fake coupe like 911s and m6s. A legit, Awd, hyper car but for less than an 720s, which would be the speed benchmark 1/4 mile high 9s @ 140ish mph. Put straight track tires on watch it give the gt2rs a run. I think pricing would be just under the 720p. It has lightness, but the m1 would have more power and one of the best Awd systems available. Idea would be it’s 250-300 lbs heavier, but has 50-60 more hp and Awd. What do you think the weight could be brought to? I think if they got aggressive you could see 3350-3400. 2 seater, with bracing bars and places to tie your harness. And s big fucking fuel talk. See through engine compartment filled with carbon and M badges. It would be glorious!! |

I love the idea of a new M1, but I don’t expect to see it even if it takes advantage of the 5 platform. Could also work off of the i8 platform but not sure you can get the engine/trans in there given its electric configuration.
Does a lightened M8 (CSL!) not work? |

The 8 and 6 are really big. I want a small mid engine bmw super/hyper car. Think about how tiny the McLaren f1 was and it had a monster bmw engine.

I agree - you’d really want to build the new M1 off the new 3 series platform, not the 5 series, to be close to the original. It is amazing when you put a nice older BMW next to a new one how much they’ve grown (me too).

I want the m5 engine. It has to be one of the best, if not the best engine BMW has ever produced. Once you choose that you are going to need a beefy transmission, axles, etc...might as well start with what you can reuse from the M5, imo.
