why can't I turn my car off?

Might be a weird question but this new to me 2018 M5 is different than the last 5 M cars I've owned. When coming to a park, press stop start button and engine turns off, press again and nothing happens, stereo doesn't go quiet like every other BMW I owned. How do you get the car to complete shut down without actually getting out and locking it?

Hold the power button on the radio for about 5 seconds (maybe longer) and it will shut everything down.

At first I thought this was a joke but I tried it and it worked, more like 1-2 seconds. Very weird that the main stop/start doesn't work to turn off the car completely anymore.

You can also press on the "option" button right next to the iDrive controller and choose "turn off véhicule" on the iDrive screen.

I was coming off of a F10 550i and in that generation, pushing the start/stop button twice shuts the car off. With the G30/F90 and all other new BMWs, you just push the start/stop button once to stop the engine and pushing it again does nothing or if your foot is still on the brakes, it will start up the engine. I found the easiest way is to just open the door and everything shuts off.

I came from an F80 and this threw me off too. I just make sure i hit the start stop button before i open my door. Once i open the door it shuts down completely

close the door.
press that button on the keyless entry button thingy that new fangled fancy cars come with that locks the car.

When I hit the Start/Stop button, the engine stops, but the radio keeps playing until I open the door. Opening the door shuts everything else down. In my car I had to bimmercode it, in yours it might just be in settings.

Yeah but even when you shut it down, the ambient lights stay on for 15 minutes. How do you shut them down too?

I park in a garage in NYC and leave the keys in the car and this had been driving me crazy. Sometimes opening the driver's door worked. Sometimes opening the passenger side front door worked. Sometimes I restarted the car and turned it off again. I never knew about the radio button so thank you for that - it works!

Funny so many of us didn't know how to get the car 100% off without getting out and locking it. Just nice to not have the stereo going as you climb out of the car.

This is something I also found interesting. As I now have a loud sound system when I get to work... and open the door it's blaring for a few seconds. So now I have to start/stop - turn the volume down then open the door... although the volume knob thing is a nice trick I didn't know about.
