M5 CS break in power reduced
****EDIT*****
I have spent more time with the car. It is very fast, I regret calling it slow I have been searching and can't seem to find if anyone knows for sure if the power is reduced on the M5 during the 1200 miles? Mine CS arrived today. Its beautiful but it feels a little slower than I expected. Does anyone know for sure if power is reduced? Is it that whole time or is it for the first few hundred miles? I have a handful of sports cars so I wasn't going to drive it a ton. Thank you in advance Last edited by TMR3; 12-10-2021 at 06:45 AM.. |

The power is not reduced. They do give you break in instructions, but there are people who believe in hard break ins and others that believe in following the manufacturer's break in procedures.

No, there is no power reduction. And when you get your 1200 mile service at the dealer, there is nothing they do to your software to enable more power, more torque, or a higher redline. There is only recommendations. It is your responsibility as the driver to follow those recommendations (if you choose to). This is my 4th M over the last 16 years and the misinformation on this subject has always amazed me. A lot of the misinformation is perpetrated by sales guys, who generally know a lot less about these cars than they should.

The worst thing is, at two of my local dealerships, it’s the Service Advisors that perpetuate this myth! “Oh break in service on your M5? Oh wow, you’re gonna have so much fun with all that unlocked power and removed governors!”
Terrible. |

You are locked out of sport plus. So I bet you are down more than 150hp. So you are correct.
What I want to know is why everyone is getting their car and mine has been sitting at Baltimore port since October 2nd 🤣 |

And this is why BS perpetuates. Sport plus doesn't add any HP, before break in service or after. The different engine modes don't do anything but change the sensitivity of the throttle position and a few other minor things. If you drive it off the showroom floor and give it full throttle, you will get 100% HP, 100% torque, all the way to redline regardless of what your engine setting is, what your transmission setting is, whether you are below 1200 miles, above 1200 miles, if you have had the break in service or haven't had the break in service.

Wow so much misinformation here. 150hp increase by pressing sport+ button? Come on you can't really believe that. You must have been being facetious.
Breaking your car in doesn't increase power. For those that follow the breaking in guidelines, when you finally do the 1200 mile service, you finally push the car without restrictions. THAT is why it SEEMS like it's more powerful. It's not though.

I blame Jeremy Clarkson for the E60 M5 review that said an additional 100hp when pressing sport plus 🤦🏻

Maybe that is why your car is still at the port. They know it's wasted on you.

Thanks fo the info.
I think my expectation might be a little off because I haven't had a performance sedan in a while. I need to get some more time behind the wheel. It's stunning to look at. |

Absolutely false on all counts. There is no power reduction prior to the run in service. The power difference is probably felt because you aren't going over 5,500rpm.
Sport Plus is absolutely available from day one, so jeuprx-8 has no clue what he is talking about. I took my M5CS to redline before the run in service (not intentionally) and I can assure you that the car makes full power right from the factory.

I beat the shit out of my x5m with under 100 odo on the clock and it feels stronger than all of the other X5m and X6m's I've driven. Unlocking horsepower is a lie.
Seal your rings well sir.

I see you have some nice cars but I do not think this thing is slow even when during break in. One can tell this thing will move even under 4500 rpm IMO…….Feels like it's going to push close to/same as the feeling of my tuned Turbo S which is definitely not slow……
