Brakes sticking after washing

The next day after washing, the brakes stick ,sometimes requiring 2000rpm’s to unstick. I did a forum search, and found similar problems. One solution is obvious, take the car out for a short drive. Another was to use Hyde’s Serum Rust Stopper to clean the rust off the rotors. Has anyone here used this, and if so,did it work? I remember having this occur on my 2018 X5M, but not to this degree.

Yea my brakes stick after a wash. P&S brake buster has anti-rust, but I still find the brakes stick but definitely not as bad as yours-usually a light dab on the throttle will get it rolling, 2000rpm seems extreme.

Are you leaving the auto handbrake on? I always leave the handbrake off after getting the car cleaned and just stick it in park for the evening.

Handbrake = E Brake by the way.

Yeah, I have been leaving the handbrake off, and most of the time, it just takes a little blip of throttle to unstick the brakes, but this last time, it took quite a bit more. I did notice a lot of rust on the rotors. I really love this car, and this seems a bit picky, but I do worry about something breaking.

When you wash, do you typically leave the car right where you washed it, after? Might want to just take a quick roll around the block (if possible) to dry them out, before you put ‘er away.

Usually I just put it back in the garage, but I am going to start taking it out for a little drive ( I like any reason to drive this machine). I am also going to use Hyde’s Serum on the rotors. Hopefully this will keep the wheels cleaner.

I just go back and forth in my driveway a few times, while tapping the brakes. That dries them off enough that they don't stick much.

yes, drive a bit after washing or hit the wheels with a leaf blower for a few minutes. Same for all my cars when I wash and leave sitting. What's worse is washing, leaving for a few days, rust haze over the rotors, go for a drive and wheels are Rust Colored. So I started drying the rotors as above with some success.

I use a car blow-dryer to dry my car and blowing the wheels and brakes dry helps reduce the amount of rust formation. It does not prevent it 100% but it is much less.

I suspect using a water filtration system on the pressure washer would reduce the rust more, but I don't have that. Maybe one day I might spring for that.

I would strongly suggest drying the brakes after washing.

The car was just washed and left in the garage for 2 weeks while I was on a business trip.

When I returned, the brake pads where seized to the rotors and a scary amount of throttle was needed to break them loose. The car was literally doing a burn out on my garage floor. In hindsight, I should have called BMW assist for a tow to the dealer.

Both front rotors and pads were replaced under warranty.

This was the result.

Yeah, I actually ordered and just received the Air Force Blaster. I will start drying the brakes after washing. I am quite impressed with the velocity of air from this.
