2020 M5C vs 2021 Mercedes AMG GLE 63S

So...I was on the freeway out in the middle of nowhere at 11pm on the night before Easter Sunday, cruising around 80mph, when a Mercedes SUV (I later found out it was a GLE 63S) passed me like I was standing still. I immediately hit the gas and gave chase...and it took me longer to catch him than I thought it would. I was honestly extremely surprised by how fast those SUVs move!

Anyways, we then lined up side by side and did a roll starting from 70mph all the way up to 170mph, and I won by only a bus length (keep in mind my car has had the limiter removed and tops out above 180mph according to GPS). Still, I was very surprised at how well he kept up, and that his SUV didn't appear to have topped out yet. FYI, most cars that aren't Teslas I easily smoke no problem. I don't know if his was tuned or what, but it had a dealer tag on it.

Later on when we hit traffic we slowed down and I talked to him a bit and found it was a 2021 GLE 63S. Never asked if it was tuned, but it was fast. He had tried baiting me when we were in traffic but I refused to race with others around as I draw the line there. But it definitely was a fun time.

Anyone else race an AMG GLE 63S? What were your results?

“The Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe is a very capable SUV straight from the box, yet PerformMaster has launched a performance upgrade that gives it some extra oomph.

By applying their PEC tuning module, the German tuning house has managed to squeeze out 712 PS (702 HP / 524 kW) and 965 Nm (712 lb-ft) of torque. The 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint now takes 3.6 seconds, or two tenths of a second more than the Ferrari 458 Italia, and with the optional V-max removal, it tops out at 300 km/h (186 mph).”

No surprises. That's a very capable SUV, like the X5M. SUVs are taking straight line performance to new levels. The Cayenne Turbo GT or the even more extreme Aston Martin DBX 707 will be on your tail most of the way.
