M5 vs Porsche 911 Turbo S as a daily driver

Does anyone know how these two compare as daily drivers, in terms of comfort? Obviously I expect the Porsche to be much less comfortable. But how much less?

A 250-mile road trip in my M5 is perfectly doable. How about in the 911 Turbo S?

Comfort is a bit like color. Different criteria for different folks. I had a 2018 M5 and drove it until my 19 Porsche 911 Turbo S arrived. Totally different cars. 2 vs 4 seats , little Frunk vs Big Trunk, etc.

M5 is the best Saloon car on the planet imho. Extreme power, comfort and quiet cruise. Handles great for the size.

911 is more visceral, engaging and fun to drive. The drive always feels special.

For me, a 250 mile cruise in a new 911 is very comfortable. Not M5 massage seat cuddles, but very comfortable.

You need to spend time in a loaner 911 to see if it be is for you.

I can't speak to the 911 Turbo S, but my previous car was a 2018 Porsche Carrera GTS. It was surprisingly comfortable except for one issue. In terms of ride, it was somewhere between Comfort and Sport on the LCI M5, but very well controlled. That is, you could feel the bumps, but they were not jarring and there was no bouncing. Also, the 18-way seats were great, very supportive, highly adjustable and just the right amount of padding. No massage function, but heated and ventilated. The cabin was snug, not airy like the M5, but not cramped.

The one area where comfort was lacking was sound insulation. Hearing the engine was not a problem as it only got loud under hard acceleration and the sound was nice. Unfortunately, road and tire noise was very intrusive, with a caveat.

Road noise was not a problem on well paved roads. When I got the car I lived in North Carolina and I drove quite a bit up and down the east coast with no issues. When I moved to the Pacific North West, the problem was clear. Most roads in this area are chip sealed which causes substantial tire noise for all cars. In the 911, it was so loud I took to wearing ear plugs on longer drives. I don't recall this being an issue when I lived in California though I never drove my 911 there. Thus, my advice is consider if you will be driving in the Pacific North West or anywhere else with chip sealed roads. If so, the 911 may be a problem. If not, I think you would find it reasonably comfortable for longer drives (with the caveat that it really is a 2 seat car with very limited luggage *******.

Ive had a 991.2 911 turbo S, 991 GT3, and currently have a 991.2 GT3RS.

The M5 seats are more comfortable. The ride on the turbo s is better

This is correct.

I had a F90 M5 Competition previously as a daily driver and now a 992 Turbo S.

The M5 had super comfortable seats, but the ride was a good bit harsher than the 992 TTS.

992TTS is faster, but the M5 is still extremely fast. 992 TTS has more power up top - it just keeps pulling. The car sounds much better and steering and the overall dynamics/feel of the car are far superior. It's a proper sports car - very engaging and excellent steering and feedback from the chassis. Grip is stupendous and the car is tenacious around corners. Porsche significantly changed the overall character of the Turbo/Turbo S compared to the 991, IMO. It feels lighter than it is and tossable.

The trade off - long car rides could potentially be a bit overstimulating. The M5 is better in that respect. That said, the performance advantages far outweigh those issues and I'd pick the TTS 10/10 times unless I needed a proper sedan.

The ride is far better on the 911. But also sort of not a fair comparison as it is twice the price.
