Tuned 2020 and up M550
Curious about this. I know the M5 has a superior transmission and other goodies, but the 2020 and up M550's got the big engine upgrade and while the M5 has significant more HP, they both have same torque.
Some M550 members with only Downpipe, Tune and Exhaust are dipping into the 10's. I think a tuned M550 vs stock new M5 might be a close match. |

Probably, but the M5 can also be tuned and I am not sure the tuned M550i could then keep up. There are some differences like compression ratio and pistons. I think the turbos are the same but am not certain.

Obviously I drive a 2020 M550. It's completely stock, but the quietness and luxury of eco or comfort is unreal. It's only until you click the Sport modes where it becomes a Beast. The massaging heat/cooled seats are very nice too. |

I got a 21 M550 loaner for service couple weeks ago. The power delivery felt more raw than my then untuned 18 M5.
I was surprised. Sounded great, ride was excellent. Tuned m550 vs stock m5 would be a real race. |

I’ve got a 2020 M550i and I’m pretty sure the ecu is unlocked because of the build date but not sure and won’t be tuning for a few years. |

I have a 19 running 10.93 and 2.9 0-60. That was with 93 oct and R888Rs.
Dyno'd at 571/663 to the wheels. Now I have a new custom e50 tune and xHP trans flash. Waiting for the rain to clear to run again next year. |

I know you can’t compare dyno but the RKtunes 2020 made 640p and 682ft-lb to the wheels on 93 so you’d expect it do 10s easily. I expect e50 and xHP will make a huge difference. My concern would be destroying the transfer case and front diff, if posts on FB are to be believed. I hope/suspect the M5 transfer case will fit as it’s stronger. Not sure about the diff. |

These sorts of threads tend to all go the same way... Bottom line, BMW are fantastic for putting proper hairy chested V8's into their non Motorsport division vehicles. No one else in the market is willing to do this. By virtue of this fact, chucking a tune or JB4 onto the 523hp 550i makes it genuinely fast and deserving of respect. If you want the highest performance saloon car possible however, you will be buying and tuning an M5 comp or CS.

to somewhat piggyback off this, i dont believe the v8's are worth modding. They dont hold unless you go all the way and build the motor. I know countless people who blew their f10's with tunes and dps, fuel, etc..all of them ended up eating shit. F90 same thing, had a guy down here making almost 800, car ran great but was down every other week for something. Ended up selling it for a Turbo S. I'd say stick a piggyback tune and be happy with that. Everyone on here is happy with the RC piggy. And i'm sure someone will come in here will say they've been modded for xxxxx miles and no issues, yeah sure, but it's coming trust me. And nobody on these boards says anything when the blow their motor...They just dissapear. |

This is 2017-2019 cars, one guy has broken 2 sets. I don’t know any 2020+ cars that have broken anything.

There’s a guy at my local euro workshop running 820whp and 8xxft-lb at the wheels in his M5 Comp and knows it will break at some point, but he’s got money to burn and will just build the engine if it blows. I suspect most people aren’t in that position. |

And thats fair. But then i'd ask myself, "why an f90?" So many other cars that you can mod with less headache. But hey, thats just my advice, it isn't my money |

Which other late model AWD mid size four door luxury sports sedans are you thinking of that you can mod to make as fast for less headache?

The money to burn guy’s car lives at the shop AFAIK along with his sheepy race TT Lamborghini Huracan Superleggera. Fastest roll race car in Australia I think. I’m sure he has other cars. |
