V1 gen2 issues

I figure there's at least a few on here who have the new gen2 detector from Valentine 1, right? I was just wondering if anyone else is having issues with laser alerts almost constantly going off? I have had to create a new profile w/ laser alerts disabled just to use the thing! lol

There are two issues with this, one I have an answer for and one I don't. If you're getting a laser alert and the V1 is saying it's from the rear, it's the gesture control sensor. You have to disable gesture control or (what I did) put a small piece of black electrical tape over the rear facing laser sensor. This weekend I installed the V1 in my new 2022 M5C, and now I get front laser alerts when I'm parked in the garage, or when driving and it's dark out (but not when driving during the day). This just started since installing the V1 on Saturday so I have not figured this one out yet, but I didn't have this issue on my 2019 M5C.

Disable laser detection on the v1.

If you really need laser defense, then have an ALP installed. It's the only laser defense that actually works.

I have mine mounted high on the windshield just to the left of the mirror/sensor housing. The top of the body of the V1 is right at the line when the shading starts at the top of the windshield.

I did some problem solving this morning. The intermittent forward facing laser warnings I'm getting are also the result of the gesture control sensor. In the dark or low ambient light, enough of the signal must bounce off the windshield for the laser sensor to catch it.

So there are two solutions depending whether or not you use gesture control. I don't, so I'm going to put black electrical tape over the gesture control sensor. The other option if you do use gesture control is to disable laser detection as subterFUSE said. In reality, the V1 laser detector really only informs you after you've already been lit up, but at least you know and can adjust your driving accordingly.

I also do not use gesture control, like many features on this car. Where is the sensor located? I will gladly tape over it...

Gents this is covered many times in this forum as you can imagine. Just turn off laser. It's pointless anyway.

It's between the overhead lights that are above the rear view mirror. It looks forward and down towards the mirror and iDrive screen.

Agree with you, once it goes off it's too late. But the benefit I like (again, since I don't use gesture control) is that I know I've been painted and can adjust my driving. I'd hate to continue speeding if I happened to not see the officer and potentially give him more fodder to ticket me!

OK, I'll bite. What's an ALP?

I tried to simply disable the gesture since I never use it anyway but I guess the laser was still being emitted from the aperture because it was still going off. I took a few pieces of electrical tape and covered the lens up and voila! No more false alerts...

No need to do the tape, just go the the programming mode to turn off the rear laser. There is a setting specifically for this. Much cleaner

I've seen this mentioned before, but I just went out to the car and checked the app and I don't see how to do this. Can you please explain further. Thanks!

Sorry, would be the appropriate response to me. Just RTFM and have the programming guide.

With V1 off, turn on and hold button in until in programming mode. Forget what display looks like but hold for like 10-15 secs. Once in programming mode push on/volume button till you come to the number 4 on display. Push on button again until bogey indicator is pointing down. Turn unit off and you have successfully disabled laser detection

Google for exact directions.
