Do you Track your M5?

Hi All, I am F82 M4 owner and upgrading my car to M5 F90, I do track my car like 15/20 times a year - and so far I am enjoying it even though I am not the fastest around the track.

Do you think M5 F90 can do the same without issues and give the same thrill feeling during track days?
thanks.

My humble opinion...gonna get real expensive tracking a M5 15-20 times per year. A heavy car.. tires, brakes and rotors.. if you have deep pockets can be done but sounds like you need a dedicated track car. I hope to get 1-2 HPDE weekends in a year with my M5 and daily drive her. I still may need new tires after a hard run weekend. No doubt the M5 is capable so you will eat up most cars...

Thanks for input. I understand it's heavier car and can consume more tires but I am disappointed that is only a city car - Bmw marketing team has always positioned it as a mix of track and performance city car, even they went over and made a CS for F90 first time in their history.
I do one track day monthly and M4 has been a champ so far - again I don't push it to the limits.

My opinion is you should get a smaller car more suitable for track use.

The M5 is a great vehicle. It’s more than capable of being a track car, but it’s only capable of being tracked on a regular basis if you have thousands upon thousands ready to spend on brakes and tires.

There are far better options for track cars out there (i.e. M2, M4, etc).

That is understandable, consumables are higher cost on M5 but that vs having 2 cars for track and street fun, i was hopping to get one car to rule them all 😇 I guess I am asking to much.

I do 6-8 track days a year. I came from an F82 that I had for almost 3 years to an M5 Competition for 2 years now.

The M4 was way more fun on the track than the M5. Like you, I wanted one car to do it all and have AWD for the crazy winters here in Canada.

With the M5, I accept the compromise of having a fantastic daily driver but less sharp and fun on the track.

Don’t get me wrong, the M5 is a missile on the track and can carry much more speed on long track straights. Braking is phenomenal, even with the steel brakes, but you really feel the M5 extra weight. When you have a quick succession of direction changes (i.e. S curves), there is a point where the car feels like it’s floating for longer than it should but at least it’s predictable.

For brake pads, you will go through 2-3 sets of rear pads for 1 set of front (I use MDM Sport, so the computer squeezes the rear brakes to compensate for my lack of talent). For this season I need to change the front discs but the rear discs are still good.

For tires, it depends I guess, but I did 8 track days with the original PZeros.
