Need new motor @ 32k miles
Brought my car to get serviced because the check engine kept on going off and on multiple times, car has 32k miles and my SA called me to tell me needs to replace motor. Anyone dealt with this before?

What year? Does it have a sun roof?
I am guessing no modifications.... An engine swap is not actually a big deal for a dealer. That was a common occurrence on the 750's for several years. A friend had one (before his prior M5) that needed an engine swap TWICE. Mike

I wouldn't say common in the general sense. I think the incidence is low, but also probably more common than most realize, even on cars without tunes.
Weird that a misfire alone would dictate a new engine, but could be the result of a number of things, so I guess all's well that end's well

Motor swap seems quite drastic for a simple case of misfiring but it could be a mixture of issues which resulted in the need for an entire motor swap.
It seems a rather good deal to have a brand new motor after using the vehicle for a period of time.

Well well well, no sunroof? Not an M5. Sorry. Pretender with plastic roof. Engine swap will be fine, don't sweat it.

SOLUTION
Hi, m5 f90 are known for the problem with misfiring .. the whole problem is in the sparks plugs and coils - especially if the spark plugs haven't been changed before (in 32K miles it is time to change them anyway) ... usually there is a leak of cooling fluid due to a bad design of a top cap of the cooling fluid tank ... then, due to high pressure under a load a bit of cooling fluid leaks/burst a bit and the liquid goes to spark plugs and coils around causing corrosion of the coils ...
Then during driving when you hit the gas pedal, the engine falls into limb mode and engine light turns on ... Your SA diagnostics then says there is a misfire at certain valves ... so what is the solution? If you notice there is a white plaque/dots at the engine cover, that is a cooling fluid and it means it got into spark plugs/coils area. Just change the spark plugs and coils and the car should be ok. I also had this problem with misfiring my m5 and other guys here as well .. SA are also advised from BMW central (at least here in Europe) to replace cooling fluid tank cap Let us know if it helps P.S. Somewhere in my phone I had also videos of the car getting in the limb mode but I think it is not necessary to post it here ... if the car is out of warranty I think the price for changing the spark and plugs should be around 1200 USD. Cheers, Petr |

Need new motor @ 32k miles
Car never went to limb mode but I believe 2 years ago they replaced the coil because of the cooling fluid. It is what it is as long as everything was under warranty.
