My observations are the same as listed in the first post in the thread. My own video demonstrates the sound very clearly.

Notice the sound got faster as you sped up but didn't change with RPM. The wind is catching something...

I'd consider getting a blower or compressed air and trying to find it that way.

OMG sorry but I burst out laughing throughout the video. LOLL

I wouldn't drive at all with that amount of noise.
I'd just drop at the dealership and tell them I won't come back unless that is fixed.

It's not wind. The noise will stop abruptly while moving and goes away completely when car is warm.

Any proximity to others with the noise?

I think I honestly exaggerated that because if I take my foot off the gas it goes away. It might come back in small fits and starts during the first 5 min of my morning drive but does go away. That was, I must concede, a long sequence. 😆

That sounds like a whoopee cushion that failed inspection! Freaking annoying. Don't know how you do it. I have no idea what that could be. Try putting a load of stuff in the trunk to weight the car down some and see if it still happens. Good luck

Update:

Got a call from my service advisor today.(He is super friendly btw)

- They were not able to reproduce the noise. Funny because I always hear it almost everyday. This seems like the visiting a doctor thing
- I have some noise coming from rear suspension when going over speed bumps, they noticed it too and ordered parts to replace it
- They told me there's a plastic part(cover) in rear differential that is supposed to spin together when wheels spin. They are suspecting this might be making the weird noise when not function correctly. So they ordered this part from BMW Germany as well

Parts needs to be ordered and delivered to US and installed which may take over a month from now.
I won't be able to drive my dream car in the mean time but looking at the bright side, it is winter in Chicago. Would have been happy if it was other Ms which is RWD only. F90 is meant to be driven in snow!

Will keep you guys posted. For those who are going through the same problem, kindly share your status here as well.

Thanks.

Wow, that is annoying!!!
I don't have this problem but I wouldn't be surprised if I can't hear it from that exhaust

I just had the same sound come from the rear right of my car. It is kind of like a squeaking noise and would happen when I would accelerate followed by letting my foot off the gas. Smooth road going up an incline though.

Also did you notice your transmission be a little more jerky in lower gears (Particularly 1st gear in MDM)?

For people that are having this noise issue, is it a Base M5 or M5 Comp?

MY 2018 or 2019?

My new F90 M5 makes really annoying, disturbing, weird, embarrassing air leaking/metal scratching type of sound

To see if your M5 makes the same noise, turn off the music and refer to my reproduction conditions below.

The conditions observed so far for me are:
- Occurs at low speed between 15-40 mph. (worst and most often at around 20 mph)
- Happens more when outside temperature is cool or cold
- When car has cooled down for enough time. A day or overnight
- Either when gas pedal is pushed or released
- Does not happen when not moving
- Sound goes away after driving for a while or highway

It's the kind of sound when huge bus or trucks make when they stop and go.
I have been working with my dealerships service center for the last 3 months but no fix yet but I'm taking it in for another check this week.

Will keep this thread updated and hope to hear from others too.

Below is my M5's log.
Sorry brother! I hope you find the solution fast.

I got this or a very similar sound too the other day coming from the rear (seemed like the right wheel arch). After a very heavy rain (I had to cross some floodings). It did the noise for a day or 2, and it stopped and have not noticed it since. Could it be a wet part in the suspension linking or brakes?

Sorry to hear that.
I don't think it has anything to do with being wet.
Mine makes sounds regardless of the weather condition.

A funny update.

I'm currently on 750i 2019 loaner and it made the same sound today! lol
Now, I at least know whatever the parts or component both M5 and 750i with M sport pack has might be causing the issue.
