Speaking of noises...I have a 2018 Base M5 with 5k miles. Been noticing high pitched scratching noises coming from rear view mirror area and overhead lighting. Seems that it started with the extreme cold and maybe the car sitting for longer than usual. Will hear this at all speeds when roads are a little rough.

I have a bunch of noises coming from the interior on my 2019 M5 on rough roads, including the area that you mentioned. I would just ignore it unless it's really bad. Sometimes you get lucky and you get a car with no such noises, but more often than not you get a car that has some squeaks and rattles. Just live with it unless it's seriously annoying.

Discovered one of the culprits. Passenger side rear door panel separated/clip broke which attaches to door. About half inch gap instead of basically no gap on other panels butting up to door. The rear view mirror and overhead lights click click noise has subsided for the moment.

Car has been at the dealers for at least a week.

Just got a call saying it is coming from the driveshaft. Some sort of cupling is rubbing/lose.

They will be calling BMW NA tomorrow to discuss, an go from their.

My wheel backing plates were fine

My dealers deemed the noise to be from the fuel pump.

It's on back order from Germany should be here in 2 weeks.

Keep you guys posted.

Well, this is new. Is the sound you hear from your M5 same as the ones from the videos in the thread?

yes same noise.

in fact i sent your video to the Service Manager so they could replicate it.

They checked my wheel backing plates and said that wasn't the issue.

At first I didn’t think much of a badly behaving fuel pump possibility. But maybe. Mine is intermittent, so maybe related to the level of fuel in the tank. I’ll start looking at that. Mine appears most often when I’m going downhill. Could the level in the tank trigger it? I think I always hear it when it is cold and only upon driving the first few miles. Sometimes a bumpy road will trigger a few short whines. It’s mor interesting than a bother, so I’m waiting for my first service to report it.

I'm still waiting for my car and it's been there fir three weeks. They say their waiting fir a part and in my case they noted a loose backing plate. I have a feeling their buying time to try and figure it out!

All I know is I miss my car!

I'm finally getting my car back tomorrow after 41 days in service.
It was in service for total of 71 days for this single issue.
I have 0 cars left that I would even want to test drive as loaner from BMW brand now.

Mine had backing plate which I assume got changed like a few more others in this thread.
Fuel pump is a new story for me and I hope that's not the case.
If I hear the noise again after tomorrow, I might go crazy.

Fingers crossed.

The noise on my M5 is getting worse and more often. I would like to know did the backing plate replacement solve the annoying noise. Thank you in advance for your response and God I hope that it did fix the problem.

***** UPDATE *****

Finally, I got my car back from the dealership. Parts switched, all nice and clean. Thanks to my dealership and the best service experts ever.

What was switched is the dust covers attached to rear differential which should spin together when wheels spin but does not from time to time.
They were switched to new ones
Need further monitoring but it's been 3 days and so far, I haven't heard the noise yet.

Hope it is fixed for good and also hope others fix the issue as well.

Thanks.

thanks for sharing. Would you mind sharing a copy of the work order? I am just afraid that if my dealer cant replicate the problem like the first time I complained about the noise, they'll just send me home again. At least with something solid in hand, I can push a little harder. Again, happy that you got the noise fixed. Will be calling dealer Monday to make appointment.

Attached is my work order. Got my car back yesterday. Backing plates were the issue (dust covers). No noise on today's commute.

Thank you so much for posting your work order. My car is scheduled for service next tuesday. this will definitely give them direction for where to starting looking. Probably save me multiple trips to dealer with your information. Thanks again and very happy for you and all of us that they found problem.
