Expected tire and brake life ?

Just wondering what you guys are getting for brakes and tires ? This is my Dd , it'll be driven relatively mildly ( no track days ) , and lots of highway . Just curious what kind of tire/brake life one could expect with such driving habits ?

Mine have always been my DDs as well. Other than my 2019 which in the COVID WFH period got less usage, all of my other cars got turned in at the end of the 3 year lease with 32,000-34,000 miles. I drive spiritedly at times, probably skew proportionally to less highway miles than it sounds like you do, and I've done 1 to 2 HPDE track days per car. And as far as tires, my F10s and F90 have all had the Michelins (the E60s and E39 had the Continentals that were stock on those generations). I also put a winter set on for 4 to 5 months a year.

So with all of that for background, I've never had to do anything with the brakes. I'd guess they'll go upwards of 40,000 miles before you'll need to worry about changing them given your described usage. On the tires, I was generally able to get through the lease on the original set. Deducting for the time on the winter set, I'd say I was generally putting about 20,000 miles on the stock tires.

Hope this helps.

It does ! Sounds a lot better than what I was hearing out of the GC camp . For whatever reason , that thing sounded like it chewed up tires in <10k miles . I know brakes are pretty expensive (4k) so I'm happy to hear it won't be too too bad on the coffers !

Did nearly 30k on pre-LCI M5 with compound brakes, still have 4 to 5 mm remaining! Tires on the other hand…

I couldn't tell if you were being facetious here , but your post makes it seem you just your M5 recently so I am going to go with that your genuinely asking. I have the 20 inch black wheel package on a pre-LCI M5 that comes with the 20 inch Pirelli summers BMW OEM tires for that rim. At just before 8k, I was down to 4 mm tread. Did a road trip and came back and was at 2 mm by 10k. SA told me I'd be at wear bars soon. Ended up getting max 10k out of two sets of these.

For winter tires, I got the winter version of the summer tire, which is what BMW OEM is when ordered with winter tires on the 20 inch black rims. Only got 10k out of those, too.

39k miles.
Second set summers about 1000 miles ago. Winter set holding up well and expect two more winters with them. I estimate I put about 20 - 25 k on the summers, less in winter.

Brakes are about 50% left.

25k on summers is about what I got on my RS6. Brakes are holding up MUCH better on the M5. Newer tech I guess.

I couldn't squeeze 25k out of my summers if my life depended on it.

7500 miles on my 2021 and almost to the wear bars. Seems like the insides on the front tires are wearing abnormally fast. Anyone else noticed this? Or is my alignment off?

Me either, and I got about 25K miles out of ACG dust free brake pads.

You must have seen my other thread about the pads. Thank you for letting me know!

That's got to be very spirited driving constantly, or alignment is off. What wheel/tire combination do you have?

You should reach out to your SA if you're not driving it hard. I think most of us would agree (except Aronis lol, he's pulling off miracles in the mileage department somehow &#128514 that you've got to have a healthy tire budget for this car, but 7500 sounds like abnormal wear.

The 789s with Pirellis. Dealer installed the M performance HAS kit when I bought it. Possible they messed up the alignment, but I don't feel any issue when driving.

There can definitely be misalignment even without feeling it at the steering wheel. But generally something that would cause this much wear would likely be felt. I'm wondering if something happened with the HAS install. Even 1 mm of out place on the springs could do this definitely cause this. Aside from the extremely fast wear, are both fronts and both rears wearing evenly at least?

Yea, it's just the innermost inch or so of the fronts that is significantly more worn.

Innermost inch is very likely camber or toe. Camber does not tend to go out as much as toe from normal driving potholes and bumps and stuff. I’d guess toe.

25k miles from PS4 or PSS or comparable tires on a 4000+ lb M5 would be awesome. I can see that from the fronts but the report of that lifespan on the rears seems extraordinary to me. I bought my car CPO with new tires a year ago and have added only 12k miles so I have no experience. I had an E90 M3 for 10 years and averaged about 12k on the rears and maybe twice that on the fronts over 80k miles.

I'll bring it up next time I have the car at the dealer but my expectations of them are pretty low. After the HAS kit install the steering wheel was offset and when I brought it to them they tried to gaslight me and say it was just because of the roads being angled... had to talk to the foreman to get it fixed.
