Schwaben Scanner.....beware....
Hi BMW folks.....this is a FRIGGEN RANT....
I bought the Schwaben Scanner from ECS Tuning two years ago. It was reported as compatible with my 2018 M5. The device is marketed as the BMW/Mini scanner and upgradable. After some back and forth with the company Foxwell it turns out that this model is no longer being supported despite only being 2 years old. They are not updating its BMW software to include cars newer than 2017. If you buy the regular NT510 or similar and not the ECS branded BMW/MINI or Mercedes or Audi/VAG etc you will be very limited in the upgrade path. Now I have to buy another scanner which is supported for newer cars. This is fraud on the part of ECS tuning..... End Rant. Mike

I am struggling to see how this is fraud. Also, why did it take you 2 years to realize that it won't work with your car?

no, they said an update is coming.....never did.....just used it as best I could. The fraud is they claim it's a fully functional Schwaben scanner yet for some reason Foxwell no longer supports upgrades on it. So if you buy one from ECS and then two years later you get a newer car, that scanner is useless. Yes, I'd call that fraud. The have a product that is neutered from the get go. If they want to sell such things, their website should be very specific about it and accurate. They said it was compatible with my model year car. They were wrong. Fraud or stupidity, your call. Yes, I am pissed. Foxwell dropped support for it! Why? Is this thing electronically different than the same model without the BMW/MINI sticker on it????? I doubt it. It's BS.

Spoke with Foxwell, the device is the same as the other scanner, just loaded with software for the BMW/MINI pre installed. Since the scanner does work on my year car, and I could reset Brake Fluid, and do other stuff, the fact that they chose to not update the software to have full instrument coverage on the newer than 2017 cars is BS. There is no different interface or required mechanical difference in the scanner. Just buy a new one...... They ASSure me that the new model scanner NT680 PRO ($450.00) will be compatible for newer cars.....I'll just use it as I can until I need some different functionality.
