Turning off active sound design

Will there be any enhancement in the quality of the sound coming out of the speakers by turning off active sound design. Since the car is using the speakers to pump fake engine noices inside the cabin (B&W)

Its a much pleasanter cabin environment with it disconnected.
I would say that music does sound better without ASD.

I doubt it affects the quality or performance of the speakers or amp much unless you have the music cranked up to near the limits of what it can do, which isn't realistic anyway. But any unnecessary background noise affects what you hear when you're listening to music, for obvious reasons. So if you're asking does it affect the music... technically, probably not, but generally, yes, if that makes any sense. I have mine turned off. Makes it a little more pleasant.

ASD is horrible. I unplugged it on both my old X5M and current F90.

download bimmer link app
buy veepeak OBD2 Bluetooth module

You will have option in the app to disable ASD. Also u can download bimmer code app as well to code the car.

I turned mine off with Bimmercode, and than the car became completely silent. Seriously without the ASD there is not V8 Rumble...lol. I also have the Remus axelback and honestly when I turn off the sport exhaust button it's pretty much the same as me turning it off in the bimmercode app. So in the end I normally drive with the ASD on and if cruising on highway long trip I usually turn it off. Also I do not hear any difference in sound quality.

The switch is the easy way. When it's off, the outside noise is also decreased. The backfires are off too. So if you disable it with Bimmercode, which I did when I first got the car (and did not even now about the downshift backfires etc) it will be off. After getting the car back from service and hearing it on again, I realized it was better left functional.

ASD was in pre 2020 models, correct? I turned it off via a fuse in my old X4MC, and when I wanted to unplug the module in my 2020 F90 found out it wasn't under the trim.

Your M5 definitely still has ASD aka the fake speaker sound they pipe in. Next time you drive it, toggle the exhaust button on and off with the windows up and you will hear an immediate difference.

By turning it off you'll lose the backfires. Or at least I did.

I just want to confirm that when coded off (as opposed to using exhaust button) you lose backfires.

I hate the idea of sound over the speakers, but would like whatever natural sound is produced.

I coded the ASD off when new and backfires/pops are still there. The ASD is a joke, it sounds like the exhaust is coming from the front of the car

You don't lose any backfires or pops and bangs. It just sounds less because you can't hear it with the sound proof windows.

Roll down your windows, or setup a microphone or camera outside your car. It's there and 100% as loud either way.

Coding it off just removes it from your car stereo speakers. Interior only. Has nothing to do with the engine or exhaust.

I used to wonder why the F10 M5 sounded like half a V10 in the cabin. . I wonder why they decided to tune the ASD in that generation to mimic a V10. Perhaps due to the E60 M5.
