[QUOTE=BlueSander;31081829]I thought the M550i also having similar problem, however, their expansion tank location is better than in the M5.
Buddy has one and had warranty service totalling $1,350 for spoiled ignition coils and the like. I looked at his coolant tank today and it's different than the one in our f90s, but suffers similar issues. |

I reached out to my local BMW dealer and they said it is a recall, but there is no remedy available yet, and to contact BMW for more info. So it sounds like there could be some hope for those of us who are out of warranty period. And it also sounds like they are developing a new part

As an FYI: I have an open recall notification on my bmw account when I log in online, however, nothing pops up when I go to the service section. And when I try to access my payoff info, I get a message saying that it is not available due to a recall.

This involves a stop sale right? So this means since the bulletin was released through present and until there is a fix no BMW dealer can sell any F90 or M8s? I haven’t hopped over to the 8 series forum but guessing this is causing problems … but also this means no used cars can be sold? Also if someone has a big problem with this coolant expansion tank and can’t drive — BMW also can’t fix it — as it seems replacing with current parts is also stopped. Seems like a cluster. I wonder if they waited till the F90 was EOP to do this or why now? What forced this? Stopping sales and repairs with no fix seems like a nuclear style option. Are they being sued or did they hit some magic number of issues that a law forced this?

Since the later 2023 MY build dates (like mine) are not included in this stop sale that implies that they consider the latest tank part number to be the fix. This stop sale reads like they want to get all the old part numbers out of circulation.

I called the bmw recall line because the website was showing zero open recalls for my car. They said its the coolant expansion tank and that a remedy has not been issued (similar to info received by a few other posters in this thread). The CSR went on to say if its a recall then notification will be sent via mail, but if its a service action item, then the dealership will provide a fix at the next scheduled service.

I literally just had mine replaced. A lot of us have. That TSB needs to apply to those too. Luckily, I knew to be looking for it and we got it before it it leaked into the injectors (as far as I know).

Im trying to buy a M8 Comp with my local dealership for 79,000.
Its a 2020. After I sat down with the sales person and did the numbers, He came back and told me there was a stop order on that year and model. He said there was a problem with the coolant expansion tank and he was waiting for a answer form corporate office. Its been 1 week and still no answer on what they are doing? Is this dealership giving me the run around? I cant see how they dont want to make a $79000 sale. I dont see a recall for that problem but after reading the forums I see how the coolant expansion chamber leak. The part is around $170. Why not just change it and make the sale. The car will still have 6 months left on the warranty. Im getting anxious and want this BMW !! |

For those of us that spent to install RK Motorwerkes billet tank: don’t feel bad. No way BMW replaces with that beautiful metal piece

Hmm, my M5 has a production date of 09/16/2022, and the expansion tank was already replaced once. It could be that the old tank was installed while the car was being finished in production, and it was just one of the last cars that got the old tank before the production date was issued, but...

Will this stop sale prevent Dealers from letting you test drive a M8 or M5? Good thing is I'm not pulling the trigger on an M5 too soon so I have faith the stop sale should be over by the time I am ready to pull... but I will be test driving in a few weeks since summer is right around the corner.

This is good news. Dealers forced to hold expensive inventory means added pressure on BMW to peoperly fix it ASAP. We should have a brand new OEM tank soon.

Or pressure to just come up with something they can justify as success and stamp it approved and move the cars. Can go both ways!
