Ceramic Vs Regular Tint

Guys, what is the advantage of ceramic tint? Is it worth the higher cost.

http://www.formulaone.com/en/pinnacle.aspx

"The name says it all... The Pinnacle® Window Film Series is the most state-of-the-art automotive tint available today. You get the same great look all FormulaOne films promise, plus the ultimate in protective performance.

Proprietary non-metallized, nonconductive nano-ceramic technology maximizes heat and ultraviolet rejection, keeping you and your vehicle cool and helping to protect from the damaging effects of the sun. And unlike metallic products, Pinnacle films won’t interfere with your GPS, keyless entry, radar detector, mobile phone, and other radio frequency technology you rely on in your vehicle."

I'd like to do something with them, not sure yet. Might try plasti dipping for fun just to see what it looks like. I did order the blackout glossy grills from BMW.

I think ceramic tint is mainly for those who have comfort access...

Going later today to tint 30% all around wither either Huper Optik or 3m crystalline. Guessing it'll set me back $400-600. Not sure if its worth it but if I use cheaper grade tint and my car can't even start because of comfort access interference then.. gg.

Did they have to remove any door panels or trim to do the tint job?

thanks.

xbook, you have a really nice collection!
Have that on my front windshield. Works well, you can barely tell it is there except for the nice reduction in heat.

no.. cell phone is not effected by the material of your tint. at least none of the modern smartphones.

And honestly, my friend have non-ceramic tint and his comfort access still works just fine. I've used cheap tint in my previous e92 and my cellphone worked just fine with good signals...

3M Crystalline. 50% sides and rear. 40% moonroof. 90% clear on the front windshield. This film has done wonders for heat reduction with such light tint.

25% all around, a must in South Florida

Got my tinted Friday, still on a do not roll down phase. 25% all around, not to dark. They offered for levels of tint price, this was $229.

Ceramic tint has been proven to dramatically reduce heat. You can find some youtube videos showing this. I had it on my front windshield. The tint is almost invisible, which would do nothing for you if it was dye based, but the ceramic REALLY reduced direct heat transmission. I had to replace my windshield a month ago and I feel like my face is being fried now when I'm driving and the sun is out.

Ceramic is worth it if you want to go higher percentage tint. For people like above who said they don't like tints, do something like AirBlue all around (including windshield) which does not darken (has a slight blue hue) and it will significantly cut heat in the car.

Can anyone with comfort access and metallic tint chime in on whether or not you've experience any issues?

Its just a risk you'll have to take. I know people who has comfort access and metallic tint that don't have problems but there are people who claim they can't even start the engine. I personally opted for ceramic, for only $200 more.. I can get peace of mind and better heat reduction. Keep in mind there are so many different brand of metallic tint, that might affect the results as well.
