110 miles on the odo....
I put a deposit on a JB/Black 6sp 135i Coupe today for about 350 over invoice. However, the car does have 110 miles on the odo... would you guys still take it? Obviously it has been test driven, but would you guys take a car with 110 miles, even at the price I got it for?

Simple answer: no. A test driven car has not been treated properly in the most critical stage of it's life. It will not have been properly warmed up before taken for test drives where the rpm's will not be kept to the manufacturer recommended break in limits and the people driving it would not care what they did to the car (as I didn't when I test drove.) If you can get a car for 1000 over invoice (which can be done) that is brand new, why "save" $650 to get a used car-and one that has been tortured at that?

i thrashed the hell out of my test drives on demo cars. I mean even my ca thrashed the hell out of it, car wasn't warm and i was shifting at like 6k and my ca pushed it even harder than me engine braking and everything. that cannot be good for the car, so short answer no. Long answer yes if you can get it for invoice.

I bought mine for way under invoice with 400 miles on the clock and I have had no problems at all with my car while people that have bought their cars with 0 miles have had plenty of problems. I guess what i am trying to say is yes you can get it cheaper, and from my experience, the car will be fine. I torture my poor car and I have had no problems. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go knock on some wood in case I jinxed myself.

Are you buying or leasing?
I remember a few years back, test were done with a car that was broken in hard and one that was broken in the "proper" way and after 10k miles or so they put up similar #'s on the dyno and still ran fine. Now, if you plan on keeping the car after 100k or so thats another question but its really up to you. You may buy the car and own it for many years and have a lot less problems than people who broke their car in properly. In 2001 I leased an Acura with 400 miles and never had any problems with it, but it was leased and was returned after 3 years. Maybe try to get them to bring the price down some more, they could sell the car at invoice and they STILL make money off the car. |

I purchased mine with 240 on the odo and really never thought about it until I came to these forums...now I of course feel like a moron. But in all honesty I purchased the car for $38,325 when the sticker read $42,325. I thought it was smoking deal but I'm a huge car lover and it seemed the only excuse I needed to buy it - the kind of guy I am about cars the dealers see me coming. From a long way off. The way I see it - anything goes wrong with the car I have BMW to fix it. Now - some folks on the forums thought my 2.9% financing over 60 months stank too - compared to 0.9% and yes it's true that one is most certainly a better rate but the biggest point is: was I happy with the deal? Absolutely. Do I love the car? Passionately. Thanks to the forum if anything "weird" seems to be happening - these same guys who would never buy a car with more than 3 delivery miles or anything over 0.9% financing will help tell me if I've got an issue. Then I'm confident the dealer will rectify the problem. The bottom line is that if you love the car - it's the one you want not just one you're buying because it seems like a deal, then go for it. You have manufacturer support and the expertise from some knowledgeable guys (and girls) here to 'steer' you in a good direction.

I didn't jump on this deal. I felt being that this would be my most expensive car to date (although coming in real close is the G35 coupe) and I wouldn't want a car tainted by 110 unknown miles. I'm working with another dealer right now that has a semi-stripped down 135i 6sp for quite a bit less as well.

Test driven cars should always be sold way cheaper. I don't see a problem as long as the price is right. They say that a car loses value right out of the parking lot. Well, at a 110 miles, that car has been off the parking lot quite a few times.

this "stripper" 135i has power seats/sports package/heated seats/ipod-usb. At an even lower price over invoice than the previous dealer. waiting to hear how many miles are on it before i throw down another deposit.

Honestly in the 5 or so new cars i've owned over the years, The most i've seen on a new car was 43 on a 01 Celica, and that was only because it was delivered from that far away. I wasn't about to take a risk or feel like I bought a slightly used car on my most expensive purchase ever. I wouldn't have even dreamed about the 1 if they weren't offering such attractive incentives (along with Obama's tax break). All of the discounts, tax breaks and incentives make the 135i a slight stretch to afford comfortably, but within reach. |

i think i purchase mine with around 20-30 miles on it. It paid around 800 less from the sticker price but its one of a kind sgm 08 128i. So far it has almost 1200 miles with no problems. Have not driven the car to its full potential, but will do it soon. Anyone from the so cal area that knows a place to activate the bmw alarm? im looking into installing one for my car so that the red light goes on, but the dealer is charging an arm and a leg just to activate it. Email me back at dragon1761@yahoo.com if you do thanks a lot peep

I think the point of how long you'll own it for is a valid one. I'm leasing mine for two years, and quite honestly, probably turning it back in when I'm done. That being said I will break it in properly but I wouldn't be too concerned.

I got mine with 1750 miles. It was the DEMO car. Was I happy about it, absolutely not but the price difference was significant. Sticker price was $42,300 and I got it for $37,500 USD. They car has no issues so far and now has 3500 miles. It's good to know that the warranty is there if anything goes wrong.
I think that the brake in process is not as necessary anymore as people think but everyone has their own opinion. |

My sticker (MSRP) was $53,300 and I got it for $47,900 + $1000 rebate so $46,900. The car was a demo with 500 miles and been a demo for 3 weeks. I know someone at the dealer had used it to take some "trips" because I saw the prior destinations in the GPS. Thus far I have had no issues. The car is leased so if something comes up, I will not keep it. One downside to the demo was that I do not get the commemorative book; however the savings was worth it.
