Street/Track pads
So, I intend to take my M235i out for track days. Accordingly, one of the things I am worried about is brake fade - several reviews have mentioned that the stock M-Sport pads just aren't up to the task over the long run.
Accordingly, I'm looking for some hybrid street/track pads. I plan on doing HDPE type events mostly, and am okay with some extra noise on the street and dust, if it means some better braking performance on the track. Any suggestions? I've been looking but haven't been able to find anything - maybe because the 2 series is so new. |

Not used these on the M235, but have liked these on other cars in the past...

Thanks for info, does not look like they currently make Hawk pads for M235i

Akebono ceramic pads on my Audi A4. Beautiful pads, no dust, smooth progressive braking. Not sure if they have fitments for the M235i yet, quick google didn't find a proper size.

Track pads are simply not needed. Do not assume you'll get brake fade just because you read it somewhere in a magazine (or some guy on here thinks they will). I'm assuming you have little to no experience on the track. Stop worrying about track pads and all that stuff. Just go out to learn how to drive and get better. The stock brakes are more than adequate for tracking. If and when you get to the level where you can feel fade, then back off for a few turns until the brakes come back and you're good to go.
I have run 2.5 track days in the M235i with RS3 tires and stock brakes. The brakes held up just fine in 95+ temps with no fade. No crumbling, no pad knock, no pad deposits or warping, no excessive wear. I'm actually surprised at how well they have held up. Coming from 3 previous BMW track cars, I expected to smoke the oem pads, but haven't. I'm an instructor with several national sanctions so I'm not a noob. |

Plus just adding high quality DOT 4 brake fluid with higher boiling = track worthy!

I also track my car regularly on stock pads. They have held up great with no fade. I run endless fluid and stainless lines.
Off topic I know, but I would recommend investing in set of square track wheels and tires. I corded my PSS's after 4 tracks days with only 5000km on the odo, and some of those k's were on my winter tires. My ns2-r's have 6 track days on them, are faster, and still lots of life left. |

To add to this, stock pads and rotors are free for now so why not use them up? I can't justify spending my own money on brakes for a tiny bit of extra performance when someone is willing to foot the bill for me. Use 'em up and replace!

I tracked my car for the first time on Monday afternoon.
I did 2 twenty minute lapping sessions with the first one being very conservative (I'm not used to such a heavy car) and during the second one I was pushing it mildly. I had fresh Gulf RBF 1000 fluid, and it held up well. It's a track which is demanding on the brakes and the stock pads started to fade a bit during the second session. Therefore, with me driving on this track, it is a given that I couldn't lap any more aggressively or participate in time trials with the stock pads - these would definitely require dedicated track pads. My Pagids (RS-29) are on order, and I shall post an update when I've tried them out. |

The Pagid pads I ordered aren't in yet, so I do my weekly lapping with the stock ones in the meantime, but I have to drive very conservatively and leave time between the sessions to minimize brake fade.
I still get fade, though it is not incapacitating - it's just that I don't always get strong & predictable braking, which reduces my enjoyment enormously. So as soon as someone mounts a set of track pads, please let us know the make and model as well as how they perform. |

Turner has StopTech pads for the front calipers:
http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-20...-f32-435i.aspx These are more cost effective than the Pagids, but maybe they offer nothing over the stock pads. I find the stock pads behave similarly to one of these street pads, as the pedal feel on the street offers less initial bite than what I'm used to on my e92 with the stock m-sport brakes.

Though I haven't done extensive testing on the matter, but based on my experience, to get better track performance than the OEMs you would have to go to a dedicated track pad, given the stockers are so good.
