Apple CarPlay Purchase 2018

Hi, I will be purchasing a 2018 M5 from a friend. He's coming off lease and feel that this will be a great time as the car has been kept immaculate and has low miles. Question, at the time of his lease he had no need for Apple CarPlay as he is an Android user. I brought it to the dealer to have it installed and they texted back "Apple CarPlay is not available for your particular year/make/model."

Could this be correct? I thought it was a $300 option at the time the lease started. Anyone know of a work around?

@kubax86 can code it in for you, he did mine for me, works flawlessly and you get video in motion and full screen CarPlay, was not expensive.

I had a 2018 base M5 and yes, it was a $300 option at the time.

FWIW, it was useless compared to what is integrated now.
iDrive was much better overall.

Or as my friend who worked for both BMW and Apple says it, "it's just a really convoluted path to get to Waze."

2018 can’t do Android Auto. Only Screen Mirroring.

I am in the same boat with an 18 M5, not optioned from the factory with Carplay. Let me know if you still have a solution for this.
