New Vessel HF-5 21" - Rubbing front vents - 2022 M5 Comp

Hi all,

I just mounted up my new Vossen HF-5 gloss black wheels, wrapped in Michelin Pilot PS4 tires. Fitment is mostly ok, except the front. When turning the front wheels, they rub on the front brake vents. I believe the offset is 20 in front and 25 in back. The back wheels are perfectly fine.

Any suggestions to stop the rubbing? Also, the car is bone stock, no lowering has been done.

My set of 21s have 275 30 PS4S in the front. ET22. Thats a 5mm difference in diameter, 704 vs 699.

Edit you're rubbing directly in line with the hub so it's not a suspension issue, this is strictly down to the radius being too long from the hub.

The more i think about it, stretching 275s will also round the edges and provide even further clearance. Not sure why this hasn't happened to anyone else.

Ahh, so you think dropping to 275 will solve the issue from the 285? I went with 285 as it looked like that’s what most were running with 10” wheels up front.

I know people run 285 on 20s which would be .5" more radial clearance vs 21s but I'm sure with the right tire, one with round corners, you could run that on 21s as well but unless your car was in an accident or has damage that would cause that inner lining to shift, I'm thinking 285 30 21 PS4S are too wide and square to clear but I'm not an expert. If you were in the area i would test fit my 21s on your car... maybe someone in your area can help you with that.

Agreed.

Can you double check the front offsets?

Is it on both fronts or just one?

Just the driver side. The passenger side clears, just barely.

Measure the back of the tire, at the 3 o'clock, to the fender on the driver's side and the 9 o'clock to the fender on the passenger's side and compare. Its very possible your caster needs adjustment, when was your last alignment.

Good point. Haven’t done one yet. Just bought the car a few months ago. It’s been in storage due to winter in Ohio.

Check inner lining to ensure that is not the issue and if OK, I would do an alignment.
