Emissions issue?

My car just announced that it needs an emissions service in May 2018, like right now.
I only have 600 miles on the car and I really have been driving it carefully, sticking to efficient mode, mostly. (although efficient mode in this car would be batshit crazy mode in any car I’ve ever driven)

Has anyone else seen this, is this another one of those software teething problems, I’ve already had the software upgrade for the high pressure fuel pump bug.

Pic of service warning.

I never had this on my M2 and that is only 18 months old.
Even in super-green CA I can’t imagine they would mandate an inspection on a car after 2 weeks.
I think my car has detected an issue with the emissions system, 2nd issue with the car (first was the transmission failure sw bug), and i also have an annoying rattling/buzzing from somewhere on the passenger side.

None of the detracts from the thrill of driving the M5

An emissions issue detected by the car would make the yellow engine icon light up in the dashboard though.

I wonder if that is actually a user selectable date and it is just a courtesy reminder feature built into iDrive. The dealer is supposed to set that up for 4 years after delivery, but they might have just forgot.
