When Dinan made the best M5's

This thing was an absolute beast. Wish I still had it
The whole motor was rebuilt by Dinan including flywheel, super charger, headers, intake, exhaust, wheels, brakes, suspension, sway bars, and on and on. Thing sounded like a Nascar. I don't even remember what the horsepower was but, it was pretty damn fast and you could slide it around like Dukes of Hazard.. lol

It even came with a leather jacket with a metal serial number plate on the inside. Dinan chest patch and S3 on the arm. #6 Built in 2005

I still wonder how many they made.

Old video shot on an old phone. Track was not prepped at all, I was there for a photo shoot for Saleen and my S7 and brought my M5 just to make a couple passes for kicks. You can at least get an idea of what it sounded like.

Fantastic! I saw one on the road months ago and the guy was using every ounce of it's potential.

Glad to hear it, the only way to drive an M car

This was one of the first V8 BMW's to really roar like this that I can recall. I used to have old timers roll up next to me and ask if I had dropped some American big block in there..haha

For a 2005, that steering wheel sure looks a lot better than my lumpy-leather-steering-wheeled 2019

lol, it's actually a 2001. 05' was the build date for the Stage 3 Dinan but yea. It had decent interior for so long ago. Even came with a built in Motorola flip phone.. lmao

The sound system was surprisingly strong with good base as well.

It’s identical to my long retired ‘99 540i6. Sometimes I miss that E39, it was a good car...

ps: I sure don’t miss cleaning those rims - they were a bitch!

The E39 M5 remains the perfect balance of performance, feel, and simplicity.
Enough power to feel the rush of speed, 6 speed manual to have total control of the car, looks that continue to age like a fine wine.

BMW was more Dinan compliant back then also, but at least today DINAN warrantees the car for you when BMW says nay nay......you modded.....cancel warrantee.....blah blah......

You cannot dwell on the lost older Dinan M5, but rather take your new one to them for the same treatment.

I remember thinking back then that Dinan was like AMG was to Mercedes. My dealership gave me zero hassles and even gave me complete coverage on the car regardless of what Dinan had done. It was great!

Actually "M" devision was the 'AMG' of BMW, but then BMW actually had dealerships that were "Dinan" certified and encouraged such upgrades to bolster the product line. Now they just stick "M" on everything like Audi does with "S-line" to push the image falsely.

The Fake 'M' cars just dilute the product line. Just about every model of BMW can come as an "M" lite version. And DON"T GET ME STARTED on the "Competition" BS. Just make a GD M5 and call it an M5. Why don't they have a separate "badge" for the M5 with the Executive Package? Or a separate "badge" for the Full Leather? Or Sun Roof. It's hokey dam it, hokey.
