Seatbelts tighten when driven hard

On my E92 335i, I get the impression the seatbelts tension and tighten whenever I drive her hard. Does anyone else experience this? Is this a design feature?

Appears to be by design:

I would expect this to be a feature on any modern car. My 2006 Acura TSX had the same feature. You wouldn't want yourself or your passengers to be thrown about the cabin during hard maneuvers would you? It's probably based on some inertia trigger.

Theres a check ball inside every seat belt mechanism which locks during pitch/dive/yaw/squats.

He means the seatbelt actually pulls you in tighter even though you are not pushing against it.

I notice this in my E92 aswell. I figure is was designed to do that.

Although it's not really the OP that concerns me, since it was a genuine question. It's the responses.

Based on the responses, this appears that it is not a something generally experienced. Perhaps this is only a feature on models destinated for outside US.

I suspect it's a matter of the driver movement since the seatbelt will automatically take up slack as you are pressed back into the seat, and then when you return to your initial position it's tighter than when you first fastened it.

This happens on my US model 335...

Floor the gas pedal and then try to move the seat belt within 2-3 seconds... You will be firmly denied...

I def noticed this with my 335 and hadn't noticed it on previous cars. I just assumed it was taking up slack after being pushed into my seat. If I accelerate aggressively the seatbelt feels tighter once I stop accelerating

Even my RSX had it too, when I even hit a bump or sometimes a pothole, the seatbelt locks up for an instant...
