Not everyone paid over MSRP. Do you have actual data of the average sale price? Not advertised price but actual sale price? Granted there were people that paid over some of them posted it here but it is not clear to me what percentage of actual sales were over MSRP and by how much. Now if you have data that states the average selling price was say $180k and now they are on average being sold for $130k then yes prices have fallen significantly. For me, just because someone with paid over MSRP for something does not make it a great deal because now a used one is selling for slightly less than MSRP.

My impulsiveness will be the death of me one day…would’ve been fine finishing out my 21 m4c lease at 1500 a month but I got the idea in my head that I wanted a m5 oh well…

EDIT — Just went back and reread my post. I hope I didn't come across as judgmental with my comment. I certainly am not! Hence my "you got what you wanted" remark. I got a relatively good deal (for the time, in May — 1% below MSRP plus trade equity from my babied pre-LCI), but the truth is even if I hadn't, I would have gone ahead with my LCI regardless because it was the exact spec of my ordered car to a T, and was just sitting on the lot. No waiting required. The dealership initially wanted $20K ADM. :

From my experience it was hit or miss on dealers selling at or over msrp. Akron, Oh dealer had one and wanted over msrp. Ann Arbor, Mi dealer sold at msrp.

I still think they will appreciate but agree with a previous comment, most likely won’t keep up with inflation. In all reality there are few cars that will appreciate at a level that makes any sense (when compared to the market), but it’s still fun to invest and have the debate on the forum regarding where prices will be in the future.

A used car between $5k (or less) to $40k is going to incur minimal depreciation bc that car is attainable by a large swath of car buyers solely from a price point. (E36, e46, e92, etc)

You get into $80-$200k cars, people become a little more careful spending that kind of cash. Prob the types of cars you want to get in the next few years bc of big discounts.

In my opinion BMW (along w/ other brand like MB, Audi, Lexus) has a hard time competing at that price point, bc buyers can just go the P car route or get into a super car or a "more prestigious" brand.
