Question oil service reset at 1200 mi break in service.
Does anyone have, or seen, a BMW document that says the oil service interval should be or should NOT be reset during the 1200-mile break in (run in) service?
Searching the forums, I see various “opinions” saying both yes reset and no don’t reset the oil service interval. The only post I found with an explanation says don’t reset because if you do then the third oil service interval spark plug change comes up at the second interval. If reset at break in service, then that is considered completion of the first oil service interval. |

It should not be reset. ISTA specifically says that. And you are correct it's because of the spark plug connected service.

Pmsteinm, thank you. Just what I was looking for. ISTA says the following…
Maintenance work M5 (F90) Situation: Pre-delivery check: For M5 (F90) a break-in check must be effected at approx. 2,000 km. The service interval for the running-in inspection of this M-model is separate and independent of the engine oil service. Once this has been done, the running-in check must be deactivated via the diagnosis system (system functions: Reset CBS -> Deactivate running-in check). Caution! Do not perform an engine oil service CBS reset! |
