Is it just me or does that rear tyre look like it has no tread?

So I had a friend recently pass away from a minor car accident. The air bags never deployed. My friends family tried sueing the car company for airbag failure.

Turns out he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. When you don't wear your seatbelt, your airbags don't deploy.

Tldr:WEAR YOUR FING SEATBELT!!

That can't be true.

So America is like a whole pile of little countries making up their own laws and rules.

Only been to Florida so don’t know what the rest is like, I’ve tried twice to get to NewYork and each time it hasn’t happened. First son took ill at the airport and was hospitalised so didn’t get and the second time Covid hit, think we aren’t meant to get to NY.
Lmao yes its a massive country. Will take you 40+ hours to drive from NY to Cali alone

This is really sad. We all have to remember that somewhere this kid has a mother (and father) who are probably going through absolute hell right now. So, though I don't want to pile on, I just totally fail to understand the not wearing the seat belt thing. Teach your kids. People walk away from far worse.

Christ, weren't even any baby car seats, no ABS, no Air Bags, etc, etc. I was born in '70 and my first car was a new '87 Mustang GT, in which belts were never worn at the time, which was just the way it was. I think it became the norm to "click it or ticket" in the 90s. This kid must have frequently roasted those tires in RWD and no conception of treadwear / traction loss as a result. I bet he was in RWD at this time too, Shame....
So sad for the family, sorry for their loss. I was born around the same time and that's definitely how it was. Incidentally, my first car was a 1969 Mustang and I thought I was invincible until I crashed it into a curb and a drainage sewer on a turn with slick roads luckily I walked away from that.

I drove my next car (an '81 VW Scirocco) much more carefully at first (in my early 20's), then youth & the speed-generated adrenaline kicked in again and the tickets came. I too was young and dumb at one time, luckily I survived my youth. Unfortunately this gentleman wasn't as lucky. RIP.

"kids are driving cars much faster" than an 2019 M5. That list is pretty short.

When did 24 years old become a kid anyway? It's not like he was 16. This man could have 8 years driving experience.

The scene in NY (Brooklyn especially) has gotten out of control. Mexico literally turned in to speedway.

I LOVE the thrill of driving these cars, but I absolutely HATE seeing a brand new RS3/M/AMG doing a 0-60 pull on a Brooklyn neighborhood street.

It seems like the tire shaved off by something, it's showing the treads. So I don't think anybody would drive it in this condition let alone speed in it...

Yes, I just saw that on the News4 NY just a night or 2 ago. Complaints on drag racing keeping neighbors up. Very unsafe practice. Go to the track for that silliness. Spirited driving on a twisty road is one thing, this is at another level.

That is why you never give kids cars like this unless they have had proper vehicle control training! My son will be driving in 6 years and he will at best get a 330ix as his first car.

Except they missed the part where driving a car is not a constitutional right. Can'tt follow the rules, don't drive a car. Simple.

Honest question: who still drives without a seatbelt and do they somehow disable the annoying chime or is it actually worth it to their ego to deal with the chime to not buckle up?
You can code out the chime

The tires might be more to blame than the seat belt.

For all we know "speeding" could have been driving 55 on a 45, which we all due here. Just because it's an M5 and a 24-year old we assume he was doing 110 on a 45. Let's stop pretending we have never speed on our BMWs and we holier than thou.

This looks to be poor driving conditions and lack of maintenance on the car. Traction on those tires is non existent.

I was just 18 when I bought my first BMW and I remember everyone always assuming I was the stupid kid speeding on daddy's BMW.

May God bless and give this family support during these difficult times.

So he wasn't speeding or wearing a seatbelt and killed himself in an out of control crash? It was the tires?

Brilliant conclusion

The glorification of driving like a muppet, filming it and putting it on social media is only making things worse. The amount of videos I see of speeding and reckless dangerous driving on social media is sickening. As are the comments of young impersonal idiots giving the 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Dispute blatant breaking of multiple laws they are not removed by social media, but other videos for illegal activity are.
There was an article not too long ago I saw of a young woman Snapchat filming her new Supra talking about killing it on the highway who then proceeded to have a fatal car crash with her life and passenger being lost. The car they hit had the entire front ripped off and those two passengers looked like they were sitting in roller coaster seats. The entire windshield, hood, engine and front end was GONE.

Cars will eventually have to drive themselves because us humans will be deemed incapable.
