When using cruise control, does the M5 Brake or Coast?
When you use the gas pedal to overtake with cruise control on, does the car brake or coast to return to the set speed? (I hate using brakes esp. at night)

I’ve experienced both. It seems to depend on the difference between current and set speeds. If you’re fairly close to your set speed the car will coast. If you’re significantly higher than your set speed the brakes will be applied.

Why would you feel like an a-hole with brake lights being activated when holding a speed? |

People who need to check their brake pedal is still there every 45 seconds on the highway are the cause of congestion. It's a ripple effect. |

Just don't use cruise control when overtaking people. Problem solved.

that would be annoying turning it off and on all the time, if people suddenly see brake lights on for no reason when youre flying down the highway, they think you are retarded, drunk or theres a cop ahead or even worse brake checking them

Active cruise control is designed to operate the car in a safe manner, with proper following distances that allow for adequate time for braking at the given speed.
The issue here is that typical drivers on the road do not know, understand or care what a safe following distance is. They will see the gap in front of your car and pull in front of you. The BMW sees a car in front at an unsafe distance and must slow down. Unfortunately, there is no solution for this. We can't control the behavior of other people. |
