I have had experience now with two G35's--both sedans. My 330i won both match ups. Not all that close. No experience with the G35 Coupe--but the sedans just have not kept up with my 330i.

Not looking to race--but both G35's made the challenge.

My 330i is at 4K and its really hitting its stride!!!

Well maybe if they can drive a stick better then you.

Just so you know some of the 4dr's can have the bigger engine with the 300hp. (298)

I'm trying to figure out how a car with 255 hp (330i) can beat a car with 280 hp (G35 auto) and/or 296 hp (G35 manual), even with the slightlier heaviness of the Infiniti?

g35

I had a G35 but it ended up being a lemon. It was great while it lasted but it in no way compares with my new 325. I know it has less power, but everything as a package is much better. The interior, exterior, tranny, engine smoothness (not power), and the fluid feel of my new e90 outweighs my old g in every way.

It's the torque (270 ft/lbs) and the HP (280) that makes us speed up and slow down! And ALL G35s have a 3.5 liter V6, the four-doors do NOT have bigger engines. Also, for '05, all 6MT G35s get 298hp. One more thing, the 330 beats the G in braking? If so, wow... That's pretty good! My Brembo (stock brakes for all 6MT Coupes '03-'04) brakes stop my heavy ass G from 60 to 0 in 109 feet.

Anyway, just thought I'd come in and clean up some of the info in here LOL.

My thoughts:

G35 (coupe) is more raw, E90 is more refined. The same way that G35 is more refined than 350Z (I've seen some bitter moments between G35 owners and 350Z owners), both cars are fun to drive.

Not trying to make an arrogant statement so correct me if I'm wrong, but from tests/reviews/articles I've read it seems like German cars are able to put power down to the road better than Japanese counterparts, so that might be why even though 330 has less BHP and torque some members here were able to keep up with G35s.

I agree 100%. My G is a ton more "raw" than my sister's E90! It's a total beast... But its still an Infiniti so it has some class. But the E90 has my G in ride comfort, handling, technology... etc. Yeah, there's something about German HP that makes them stronger than Japanese HP LOL.

Me and many members have raced the G35 manual vs 330 manual, I've personally taken a G35 6Speed (orange brembo brakes) up to 140 mph and the 330 keeps pulling and pulling...............

I think Infiniti's ads are just plain wrong. Yes the G35 has more HP. In every mag and review I've ever read, the 3 series beats it in all acceleration tests. This is most likely due to the 3 series powertrains better performance across the entire rev range (not peak torque, peak hp figures) since the two cars weigh nearly the same.

My honest take is that the extra money spent on a BMW goes to the interior, a more refined powertrain and a balanced driving experience -- and a little more profit

They could always throw more displacement at the car if they were overly concerned about the HP wars. Why go head to head with the Mustang, the 300, and any number of cheaper and faster alternatives?

I'm really looking forward to the new G35 sedan and coupe. The coupe looks great the way it is right now. I wonder how they will change it.
The G35 is the only car (at least in my opinion) that has ever come close to and/or beat the 3 series. Albeit it was the E46, it still means a lot. Nissan/Infiniti has a lot of work to do and I'm looking forward to the outcome.
Competition is good for us consumers.

Its not the car, its the immature young drivers.

Dont encourage them and race on the street, not worth it.

Mine did. I mentioned that the two cars I was considering besides the 300i were the M35 and the Audi A4/A6. The salesperson made disparaging remarks about both cars, which really put me off.

On the other hand, all 3 Infiniti salespeople (from 2 dealerships) had nothing but nice things to say about the BMW and the Audi, then went after what they perceived to be advantages in the Infiniti. The two Audi dealerships I visited had similar takes.

Frankly, I had to get past the arrogance of my BMW dealership to get to puchasing the car. (Except the finance department, which gave me the 5.25% I asked for, and didn't high-pressure me on the upgrades.)

Yangster: I know the G35 will beat a 325 off the line, but the Infiniti's handling and styling just doesn't compare. That's why I enthusiastically plunked down my downpayment on a 325 a month ago after closely considering and test-driving the G35 and the IS.

I really liked the G35's acceleration, and found it to be much better than the 330i's. But the interior didn't look anywhere near as nice, and I couldn't get the luxury options I wanted. I nearly purchased the M35 (for several thousand more than the 330i), but we couldn't agree on my trade. (I don't negotiate, I price and offer.)

All-in-all, I'm very pleased with my purchase. Despite the M35's hefty feature set and fast engine, I couldn't get past paying $50k for a Nissan.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that feels really turned off when a salesman bashes all your other car choices. Sorry, competition is competition and every car has its pros/cons. I find it really tacky when a salesman resorts to bashing the competition to sell their car. It's somehow almost insulting.

Has anyone noticed that there are a bunch of 335s out there that do the same thing.

The coupe is not faster than the sedan, they have the same hp and tq, and the sedan weighs less. If you beat a G35 6MT in your 330i odds are the G35 driver didn't know what s/he was doing, the G35 is as faster or slightly faster than the 330i; in general that's all it does better, but at lets at least be objective on that point.

Well interior aesthetics are subjective at best - I've owned two G35s and the interior of the 3 series is, subjectively, a lot nicer in my opinion. Objectively the fitment tends to be better in the 3-series and the quality of materials is a little better than the last gen G35. The new G35 does have a much improved interior.

One good thing about the 03-06 G is that the interior is extremely durable - so while it isn't exactly pretty, the plastics are pretty tough.

Um street racing within the limits of your vehicle isn't a street war.... race him next time; and don't cry when you loose. Just when you get to the next light let him know you are down with OPP. LOL!!

funny experience this morning. i was stopped at an intersection waiting for the traffice to go and i saw this g35 sedan ad where they emphasized the words "BEYOND.........MACHINE" at the beginning and end of the sentence. i tried to take a picture of it with my phone but somebody beside me kept on revving his engine on me. i looked and saw that it was a 330i. and the guy then passed me and went on. (i had to go straight and he made a right turn)

he must have thought that it was weird of me taking a photo of a g35 ad while riding my e90.
