Can’t get my 1200 mile service done

Seems like no dealerships in SoCal have the new diff oil needed for the 1200 miles service. Apparently it will not be available in California until the end of
The month. Which sucks since I’m nearing 1500 miles on the car and need them to replace the front pads and rotors which are defective but they want to do both
At the same time.

Since service is how dealers make most of their money, and M cars cost a lot to service, can you try threatening to take it to be serviced at another dealer?

Just say to dealer A, "well dealer B isn't far from here so I'll just ask them to do my brake pads and rotors and then will continue using them for all of my service needs since you're unwilling to help me out" and see what dealer A says.

Garage List

For the brake pads and rotors, I would tell them to pound sand and change them now. Unless they want to take responsibility for any problems that occur between now and when they feel like doing it.

I’d be pretty annoyed with that. Cue one of my favorite movie quotes...

same problem today. I scheduled the service on Monday and asked them to make sure they'd have the diff oil for today. brought it in and they said they couldn't do it because they failed to order the diff oil.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I am a week past my break in mileage and waiting for this oil to come in to dealer. I can’t believe BMW is not prepared to handle the obvious service needs of this car. How this is handled is mind blowing.

Coming out of a Porsche where this would have never happened. Absolutely unacceptable.

Yeah I’m 2 weeks and 400 miles past my 1200 mile service. The company distributing the diff oil messed up and didn’t stock it in the usa when the cars were released.

Do we know any service which has the oil? I would buy it and ship it to where my car is waiting for it.

I suspect that this is a supplier issue rather than a BMW issue per se. If BMW ordered the diff oil and the supplier can't deliver, then what?

Similar incident happened with Porsche. 2014 GT3 engine, supplier screwed up, some cars burned down. Massive recall to replace all engines on cars shipped.

Tried to get service done for this weekend and SA says they can't find the rear diff oil. 2-3 weeks out.

Yes it took me about 3 weeks to get the diff oil as it is new and not used for other cars. You have to call the parts department of your dealer and find out when the local distributing warehouse has it in stock. The service advisors all mistake the oil for the one used in the M550i and X cars.

Thanks for the heads up. I told them last week when I put in the request to get the service done. They just now checked and found out that there was a delay. So now I wait

Made my appointment last Tuesday for this Friday. They said they had the diff oil under control. Told them is was special and just released in March. Told them to call me before I left to drive down (1hr each way) if the diff oil was a problem.

No call this morning. Started to leave but thought about the posts on this forum. Contacted them again and asked them to double check just to be sure...........uh, that’s a special oil .......go figure. Possibly next week. This forum just saved me a 2 hour drive !

Does anyone have the part number and volume of fluid needed for this service?

Also the oil filter part number.

I have my 1200 miles service booked for Monday, but may not hit 1200 miles before then LOL.

Thank you,

Mike

I would let the dealer do it due to reprogramming needed for the recall. Plus it’s engine oil, front diff, rear diff and transfer case.

Just make SURE they have the special diff oil so you don’t waste a trip.
