My car has 30k and it's is yelling at me to have brake fluid service. Not sure if that is a flush or just a top off.

Trying to avoid any dealer trips. Don't want them recoding my car. Even loosing radio presets is a pain the ass, never mind coding out the car's engine sound. So screw that.

I'll be looking into DIY fluid flush, just hoping someone has done this. Probably involves removing half the engine to get at the brake fluid reservoir.....LOL....

watching youtube video on older M5, and yes, you have to take the car apart to get at the brake reservoir. Yes, that is why I want the mechanic training on my car because I am sure they have done lots of M5 brake fluid flushes....sure....

When they did the spark plugs it took them 6 hours.......

Would imagine you'll need ISTA to disengage the electric parking brake. Other than that it should be a standard fluid change. Get a power bleeder. Back right; back left; front right, front left. Done.

I know the process for normal cars...LOL....I have a pressure bleeder, just like to ask if someone has actually done it on this particular car for possible heads up to crazy issues. LOL. We did my son's civic a month ago and I did my Q7 last spring, RS6 twice, etc. Pretty straight forward on those cars as the master cylinder is right in plain view. Going to look right now. LOL. BRB....

LMAO....one thumb screw and a little panel comes up and the cylinder is right on driver's side fire wall. (older M5 requires removing the housing for the cabin air filter to get at the master cylinder which is on the passenger side on that model M5). So the F90 is much easier.

As far as brake pads and rotors, that's not quite due yet. LOL. But I will likely do that also myself. Hobby vs convenience.

I was close to doing the spark plugs myself, but with new car under warrantee I'd rather let the dealer do that since the process is quite involved. The two engine ECU's are water cooled, and the lines to them are not flexible. Nice design. Could you imaging breaking one of those friggen things......and you have to move the reservoir for the radiator out of the way to get at one side. I suspect if I keep this car, I will learn the process and DIY. I have the backup of a master Porsche Mechanic friend who always invites me to bring my car and use his lift, etc. I don't want to wear out my welcome there though. Will be taking rims and new tires to him for mount and balance. He works on Bentleys and 911's so I am sure he can do 20 inch BMW wheels without scratching them LOL.

Havent done this car yet but have done my m4 and olan to do the f90 too. There are great kits out there (schwaben is the one I have, bought from turner motorsport) that is excellent. Im not a pro by any stretch but found it a pretty easy job. It was actually fun! If you do it, follow the advice to put a dab of grease around the bleeder before you hook up the hose. I thought i was seeing bubbles come out when it was only air getting sucked in around the bleeder tube connection.

Done. Took about 2 hours. No rush. New impact drill was very helpful. I should have bought one 10 years ago. LOL.

30k Miles, and the fluid was 'dirty' but probably was over kill to change it. Brake pads are more than 1/2 still present. I measured it at about 3/8 inch remaining. No sure what the thickness is when new but the taper part is still very present.

Brake Flush, so easy a 13 year old could do it.

No electric tools needed to do this job. Even brake pad changes. The rear parking brake is a standard electromechanical parking brake that the piston gently screws into the caliper with a standard Euro parking brake piston tool.

Cool. Shop used it when I had oem swapped with ceramics a few months ago so figured it was.

I had my service done on Monday in BMW dealership ... told them to do just break fluid service as the car ask for it (after 3 years) ... it was done in 90 minutes and I paid for it ca 65 USD (:

I think that was to be coved by the routine maintenance, but I did it myself for about 20 bucks in brake fluid and an hour working with my youngest son. I like to DIY whenever I can. We also did the same on the Q7 the next week.

If I recall I did it with less than 2 liters? I did not note the volume. I filled the flush tank and used about 1/2 of it?

1-2L is what I would use. Buy 2, but you should not need to use it all. Usually you can see a color difference when the new starts coming out.
