After 1200 mile run in service I now have a noise.
QQ for any ideas. Had my 1200 mile run in service and had Michelin Pilot AS 4s put on for the winter about 3 weeks ago. When I got it back I had a faint buzz hum coming from what I think is the front (wife says it is behind me or under me in the drivers seat). It has gotten progressively worse and now can be heard over the radio. It sounds like I have mud tires on the front. I would say the noise is similar to putting a playing card in your bike spokes as a kid and going really fast. Because it has gotten progressively worse I do not think it is the tires (in addition this is my 5th set of these tires and never had an issue). BMW says it is the tires, but is having their master tech look at it this week.
Should I be concerned that maybe they didn’t fill the front diff during the run in service or something else? I am baffled. It is loudest at 45 mph and does not change when the car is in neutral coasting. The sounds gets louder with speed and does not change when swerving or turning hard. I removed the tires and inspected them and rotated side to side and no change. I am calling Tire Rack in the morning to see about replacement but now the tires are back ordered. |

I had a slight humming noise when I bought my car and drove it before the break in service. I was making turns to see if it was the bearing, but it only happend at 55-58MPH.
After the break in service and change of the differential oil the noise went away. Just posting my findings. |
