First service didn’t go as planned.

Went in for my first service of my 18 and got told there was a rock chip on the radiator. Said it was the one for the cold air charge. Was then quoted 2,274, is this normal price? It is my first ever service with the car, so an over 2500 bill after the oil and brake fluid flush was not my ideal scenario. This is also the first bmw I have owned.

Edit 1,044 is parts radiator, an updated rock guard, Coolant, clips etc
And then 1,230 for labor? The labor one seems a bit ridiculous unless there are a few very time consuming things to do.

Coolers for this car are ENORMOUSLY expensive. I'm sorry about that. I can't say that's totally outrageous, the radiator DOES cost that retail. You might could get it cheaper and get it to them, but about ten total hours in and out is not our of range for these either.

At least I know the dealer isn’t trying to screw me on price. We have a few reputable independent shops I’m going to reach out to and compare.
Thank you for the info

Check online for some OEM prices. The labor is long.

When he put pressure through the system it was essentially a pin hole. Extremely small.

You mentioned cold air charge? Was this the AC condenser?

I am interested in the updated rock guard. Where is this installed?

It is the front radiator, it's blurry but he is pointing to the hole. It's behind the drivers side grille near the m5 badge

So the main radiator. I had the AC condenser replaced in mine, the middle one, and it was about the same cost.

Could you claim that under your auto insurance? Not sure what kind of coverage or deductible do you have. But I would think that a rock hitting your car and damaging your radiator could be claimed under comprehensive, kind like the windshield. Just a thought.

Interesting! Definitely interested to hear if OP tries this and if it's deemed a valid claim to be covered.

That is a TINY hole to cause that much damage and expense. Sorry to hear this, OP. Hope it gets resolved soon!

Just got off the phone with insurance, they said this would fall under comprehensive and be covered. Now I just need to decide if I file the claim will the savings I get now be worth it if my rates go up

That is good to hear and I kind of expected they would. I don't think this would make your insurance rate go up, because of the amount ($) of damage. That amount should not justify an increase in rate from your insurance.

Looks like your intercooler radiator got popped as usually its the first radiator you see when looking through the grill, then A/C condenser, then engine radiator.

As for pricing, they are taking you for a bit of a ride on the part cost (unless the rockguard is making up for the additional $$):

https://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/...8043655?c=az0x

Labor looks to be about right though, its a 5 hour job at BMW 200+ an hour rates.

Not to difficult to do if you decide to tackle yourself, you will need a coolant vacuum refill unit however.

I actually sent them this exact price from a different site. They agreed on the cheaper price for the radiator and new guard.

In case anyone wants to see what the new guard looks like.

I always fit rock guards to my bikes, have never thought to on my cars, but this has me thinking.

Have a look at grilles from Zunsport for the F90.

If anyone was curious how the Guard looks installed, after it was all said and done the cost was just over 1,800. I am going to be getting the guards for the other exposed radiators as well, just in case.

Just took a look at my grille and my 2020 already has that plastic grill attached.
