Stock Pirellis suck....they are legit ruining my paint

WTF is up with these tires? They are shit. They kick up the most amazing amount of rocks ever. Please note I just changed from my all weather Pirellis to my stock Pirelli P Zeros maybe a month ago. One month.

This is what my inner rocker looks like after one month. This would be the driver side......where the side skirt starts behind the front wheel. I wiped the area clean before I took a pic....those are ALL rock chips. I did not have a scratch here a month ago....let alone 75 different rock chips.

That's not the tires being shit, looks like the tires are actually doing their job too well. A lot of cars with wide tires that stick out past fenders will have this happen and you can only apply paint protection film or use less sticky tires to prevent it. In your case, you could touch up the paint and try to prevent it from happening in the future.

Bit late to do that now. Oh well, it's a lease......BMW can deal with it. I've never had this issue on any car I've ever owned.....I doubt it's desirable to most.

I'll take lesser tires in exchange for not ruining the paint. Same with the brakes...would gladly take lesser brakes in exchange for them not sounding like a school bus. These are my only 2 issues with the car.

Wow...Mine did not do that and I have the 19" wheels with Pirelli's. I did put PPF on the car at 700 miles. No chips in the first 700 miles though.

I have the same exact issues with my Pirelli's. Seems to pick up any rock that it can find. It even kicks them up to the mirrors on a turn. I definitely don't have this issue with Michelin's on my other car. I've read about this issue on this forum before. Some mentioned swapping to Michelin's helped.

Not a fan, I've had bad experiences, Pilot Sport 4s all the way. Sucks that BMW puts both on the car, I got the 4s with mine. Not sure how they determine who gets what.

I am amazed with all the reviews and feedback on the forums that any one runs another tyre apart from the p4s

Weird - so he has ran p4s and also pzeros and prefers the pirelli? It's night and day regardless of road surface.

he had mp4s on his f10. pzero on f90.

I dont understand why so many hate the Pzero tire. Sure, the Michelin may be "superior" but for daily driving, and even hard driving, both tires are fine. People are acting like if you have pzero you're going to crash and die. The difference is negligble. The Mclaren 600LT comes stock with pzero's...

I've put 9500 miles on my car since I got it in December......8000 or so with the all-season Pirellis and the rest with the P Zeros. There were 0 scratches with the all-seasons in 6 times the amount of driving. That tells me it's the P Zeros.

Agree here- its the composition or lack of it with the roads/weather/heavy vehicles etc.

I have Pirellis on my R8 and my Porsche GTS (both on 305's)- zero issues and both have soft paint. My roads are well paved and weather and heavy cars dont break it down into cobblestone (I joke about the extreme here).

Any company that makes tires and is not Michelin should be charged with crimes against humanity and sentenced to death following trial at The Hague. 🤪

I would run Michelins, but can't get four matching tires for the 19" rims.
Don't mind the Pirellis, but it's a lease, and I'll have a new freshly painted one in a year.

The grip of a tire is usually a good quality. Any better tire usually has better grip in more situations. Accordingly, your complaints are really not the fault of the Pirellis. Try ppf like the rest of us and/or stone guards.

Is that road debris from living up north and your state/city putting gravel/salt on the roads during inclement weather periods?

Sounds like a mix of softer compound tires and road quality. All Weathers probably did not pick up was was there all along.

Honestly blown away by the number of chips .. sucks to see.

I had P Zeros on a White Audi S6 many years ago with zero issues but Miami roads are very good.

Do you guys think adding PPF now will make that look a bit less noticeable (the damage that is already done I mean) as I am not having the rockers repainted for something like this when my lease is up in 19 months.....

I mean it's not crazy obvious unless you are on the ground looking right at it....but still.

I,mean, yeah, our roads are not Cali roads.....but I certainly haven't driven down a gravel road, either!

Actually, I take that back.....I did drive down a mile long gravel road on my all-seasons back in January....and it didn't chip the paint, at all. I'm driving down normal paved roads all the time with the P-Zeros....I mean you can turn any corner and hear the rocks kick up a lot of time.
