True or false
Brought my M5 in for 1200 mile break in service today. They Changed the oil and gear oil.
Complained about what I feel is a notch at the top of brake pedal travel. I’ve owned 6 Porsches, 2 911s, a Panamera and 3 Macans, along with I can’t count how many other cars in the last decades. I’ve never felt this before. They said this is normal, that I may be feeling the pads hitting the drilled holes in the rotors. That it will smooth out. I only feel it upon initial brake use, or if I haven’t used brakes for 10 minutes or so. Repeated braking, such as stop and go traffic it does not happen after the first application. Sound plausible to you what they said? Do the brakes need to be bedded? If so, is that just a matter of a few hard stops? Also, they said the car is purposely down close to 100 hp during the first 1200 miles until you have the service performed. True? I thought it Felt quicker when I drove out. Usually if I step on it I feel the torque in pit of my stomach. Today I felt it in my eyeballs in form of slight blurred vision, or so I thought. Don’t forget I’m old. Dead in dog years and old as dirt. What say you? |

The power "limiter" is bs (this has been discussed on this forum before). They don't limit the power in the break-in period nor do they limit the revs. You can go flat out from day one. Launch control is also not locked, you can do everything with the car from day 1 if u wanted. My brakes always felt normal.

Placebo effect in full effect. It’s a good idea to bed your brakes or they will squeak like hell soon.

Ty for the replies. After I posted this I did a search and found a thread on point. Seems it is voodoo. Lol. Just surprising, actually disappointing, that the mechanic who did the service has been with BMW for 20 years and would espouse that.

Next time you are at this dealer, look the person in the eye who told you that and tell them to stop spreading false information. Then go to another dealer. Don't know about the brake thing, but I always recommend bedding. I did it on the way home from delivery. While checking for traffic behind you, up to highway speed, hit the brakes HARD all the way down to 5 or 10 mph (don't come to a complete stop). Immediately accelerate back up to highway speed and repeat. At least 5 times, I usually go for 7. Done with every new car and new brakes I've had for the last 20 years. No noise from my M5 brakes and haven't noticed any notch.
