On the topic of passing on Mclaren. I'm not 100% sure Mclaren makes it through this recession as an independent brand. Depending on how deep and long this economic collapse is. They need new leadership at the top. The QC has to improve. The new sports series is going to be a hybrid, further increasing complexity. It will be a nightmare for owners if they don't get it together.
Aston Martin too, they weren't doing well before it hit, and now they're going to be in some deep shit, they are apparently expected to lose all spending money in a year!

Mclaren is still a very very new brand but It doesn't help their value that they really only have one engine in different states of tune and most of their cars look very similar to each other. The QC is horrendous and the interiors are pretty boring and hopefully for them that will improve over time. Even the Senna is trading now in the $800s now!

Congrats on the 458 there is nothing like an open top Ferrari! I got my pista spyder last month and can say it is one of the best driving, sounding, looking and built sports car I have ever driven. Truly amazing!

Congrats on the Pista. It's my favorite car under $1mm right now. My buddy in Florida who brokered my Ferrari deal sent me this pic the other day as a humble brag.

This is off topic, but have you had a chance to drive an F8 yet?

No, not yet. I think the first F8s are being the delivered in the states now and I passed on my allocation so I didn't get called out to drive the demo.

I'll tell you when I get the car up here in a week after full detail. I'm assuming it will different with the shrieking V8 and power delivery, having previously owned a 458 it's immediate how the power comes on. The M5 though has no lag in the right gears and pulls so hard it feels like a roller coaster.

Honestly, cars that trap 120-130 mph in the quarter mile all feel damn similar in a straight line it's just a matter of how long that feeling lasts. I remember getting out of my NSX to test drive a 570S spider and thinking wow this feels the same when I punched it. Outside of a Pista, F8, or 720S there isn't anything you can buy today that's going to scare you under $1mm.

Those cars are too fast though, really, for Pittsburgh. You won't find many places with good roads or straight roads. A car needs to excite at any speed. The 458 is a near perfect combination of beauty, feel, speed, sound etc.

458 VS NSX review. I posted on Fchat originally and I'm reposting here:

PM
Today was a nice day and I was able to spend time driving both cars in a variety of scenarios. I'll post some pics tomorrow. Anyway, here's the review:

Acceleration/Performance: This is a tough one, they're damn close. Above 4500 RPM the 458 has instant power and pulls hard. So chaotic is the experience that it's hard to get to redline in gears 2-4. Above 130 mph (done on closed course the 458 continues to pull but feels light like its dancing. The NSX is super quick too, also needs to be in the right rev range. It pulls possibly harder than the 458 but then loses steam towards the top of the rev range and the range is lower. It has a smaller range of fun. Launch control in the NSX is VERY easy to engage and VERY fun. 458 is faster above 130 mph than the NSX.

Steering: 458 wins, but it's close. I love the feel of both steering wheels. The 458 has more feel but neither has a tremendous amount. Both are good in this regard. 458
Dances way more and makes you feel one with the car.

Brakes: NSX wins. CCBs give a lot of feedback (amazingly) and don't require any warming up to get them to work. The Ferrari brakes needs to be warm to work well. They require a lot of pressure when cold.

Sound: 458 is on a different planet. Far better and louder.

Transmission: NSX wins, but pulling Ferrari paddles are more satisfying and the Ferrari downshifts way harder in RACE. The NSX is way smoother though and definitely seems like a 2nd generation of DCT at low speeds especially.

Interior/comfort: 458 is way roomier inside and with bumpy road mode is just as comfortable of a ride. Seats are comfortable in both but 458 seats hug me better. Both could be driven daily. 458 is also way easier to get in and out. The NSX doors are so freaking long they're ridiculous. I've looked like an idiot getting out sometimes.

Tech: NSX is way better. The tech of the 458 is definitely last generation and the phone integration is very poor. The lack of the ability to have Apple Car Play or play Spotify on the 458 stinks but I didn't buy the car to play music. NSX phone integration is some of the best in the business.

Styling: 458 wins for me, not a bad angle, seriously. I like the NSX a lot too however (obviously since I bought it) but 458 is more timeless and beautiful. It will turn heads in 10 years.

Feeling: NSX feels, well, like an Acura some what. Reliable, kind of plasticky, solid even though it's fast as hell. 458 feels special. Far less sound deadening means you hear all the stones that hit the underside so you tend to drive more carefully, instinctively trying to protect the car. It shakes more. Dances with you. Makes me smile and happy and nervous at the same time. It's just an amazing machine.

Agreed, the allure of the prancing horse badge is simply hard to resist if one had the dough to shell out for one. In an ideal scenario, a M5 Comp for practicality and the GT4 Lusso for long family drives but then again, the M5 Comp would also be an ideal car for long family drives albeit with less driver involvement and feel.

It really boils down to what one wants and how deep one's pockets are isn't it? I would get the GT4 Lusso V8T for that better low end torque though the V12 would really sing as you get to higher rpms. One man's meat is another man's poison.

As of now, the F90 M5C I have now would be a keeper for a couple of years till maybe the next M5 comes out or if I suddenly have the means of affording another nice super sedan/wagon. The 2020 RS6 Avant is a very attractive proposition and has been my dream of a super wagon for a couple of years now but never gotten to get one. In my part of the world, the RS6 is even more pricey than the M5C and has even worser depreciation. I would really need to work harder and see how things turn out.

For anyone wondering, the M5 is definitely the quickest of these three cars. It pulls pretty hard at 150 mph. The Ferrari dances around above 140 mph and the NSX slows down rate of acceleration at about 140 mph or so.

Oh I've been considering a Lambo for sure. I'm between, and this is a weird list, a performante, a 675 LT coupe, a 720S Spider (just because they're dropped like flies brand new and lease deals are crazy) and finally a well kept '11/12 DBS. I have a deal closing hopefully by summers end that I don't need the cash for so I can plow it into a car. I also have a C8 convertible on the way late this year so garage space will be an issue.
