The steels were embarrassing and BMW told me to take a hike after I had the rotors and pads replaced. The ceramics are very quiet until they have not been washed for about 150 miles of city driving and then they start to act up. The Porsche, Mercedes and Ferrari etc ceramics are very quiet and rarely make any noise. I think BMW wanted to fix the bad brake reputation of the past and went too aggressive on compounds on the steels. |

I snow foam, then clean the wheels and finally rinse with a hose on normal water flow before drying off the wheels. I'll try jet washing the next time and see if it makes any difference.

wait for it.... trust me. at some point you will get it for no apparent reason. My z06 has less than 10k miles on it, and for odd reason around 8500 miles they just went absolutely nuts for about 3 months. Then it went away. |

The only downside of ceramics (besides the price tag) is when it pours and brakes really do get wet, you can have an "oh shit" moment, as they really don't brake that well when wet.

This video is hilarious (my "honking" brakes are not)
One of my favorite parts is the way they introduce the guy as being "responsible" for the brakes. The entire video is simply bizarre. If having great brakes on an amazing car means you have no choice with the school bus brake squeal then sign me up. Having heard that other performance brake systems don't have that issue as frequently is disappointing. All of our questions and concerns are answered here... |

I spoke to a Porsche dealer who said many of his customers with CCBs complain about squealing. So, it's obviously not just a BMW issue or a steels issue, and it seems to happen inconsistently.

Otherwise, the only other thing they could say is that the brakes NOT making noise is abnormal.

Mine after sending in to the dealers last week for some electronic issues started squealing really badly after collecting back the car. Wonder what did they do to the car to make the car squeal so badly now.
Yesterday on a lazy sunday afternoon, I took the car out to a deserted road and gave it the beans for some fun then I decided to do a few emergency brakes to see how does the car fare for my personal fun. Wow the steel brakes are pretty good as well. After a few emergency brakes, the brake squeal went away. I'm wondering if we need to drive the car hard and brake hard for the car to be in good working condition? Reason being, after a slow sedated extended drive of the car to a place for supper, upon start up of the car to drive home, car indicated multiple errors. I usually drive it like I stole it and no issues at all.

this is what i've been saying.. lol. If your steels are squealing, thats a problem. I've never had that happen, CCB, 100% guaranteed. |

The only time mine make a school bus sound is if I slow down at the speed of a school bus. If I brake harder it never happens.
If i brake very lightly and then firmer it goes away.(during the same stop). |

https://youtu.be/fUNHb9O52WQ There are many factors contributing to this, but what Usually goes is Squeaky brake is inevitable on performance cars. Our Porsches, AMGs, and Ms all have had experience with brake squeal, and I wouldn’t say if it’s one over another in terms of frequency. It’s all case dependent, but yes more so in daily driving.

FWIW, mine haven't haven't been making any noise and I'm coming up on 3k miles. I bedded them in pretty good first day I had it. (Steel brakes). Half a dozen times in succession, full pressure from 80 to 100 mph down to nearly full stop and back up to speed. I've heard a couple squeaks from them but that was after washing the car and it didn't last much past getting out of my driveway.

Also knowing Porsche’s pursue for perfection, they would have done it already if it’s possible. (for example, the new Panamera seats are more elegant, more adjustable, and in a a lot thinner and compact package compare to our M5. They however, is able to make perfect massaging seats that’s leap and bound better than ours...ehh.. off topic?)

My M5 brakes were honking a week ago because I was doing the slow cruise thing. A couple mildly harder stops, and remembering not to drag the brakes, and the sound is gone. |
