in my days of driving cheap cars , the brakes never squealed
and have owned several M, AMG , Porsche cars , with both ceramic and steel brakes , and had minimal squeal with most of them, none that was bad enough though.
don't get yourself frustrated and take it to dealer and see what they can do to reduce the squeal

My F90 brakes squealing when coming to a stop all the time. mine doesnt sound that loud so I'm pretty cool about it.high performance cars usually have brake squeal when slowing down so I think it is normal. at least from the other super cars that I have seen and heard at parking garages most of the time. ceramics seems to squeal especially bad.

My have started to squeal now as well. First 6k no probs and I was self congratulating my stellar bedding in technique lol. Now they are moderate squeal once warm up most days, better after wash, usual stuff. I am gonna try and find a nice abandoned parking lot and do some uber aggressive stops while in reverse (read somewhere that one who knows)... what the hell can’t hurt... might do Miko’s oil trick (no kids- do not try that one at home). Maybe aftermarket pads are in my future?

At this point I would call brake squeal a feature and not an issue. I'm surprised it's not listed on the Monroney sticker!!

I had it on my F10 and now on my F90 and I can't determine a pattern of why it does sometimes and doesn't other times even on the same drive under same conditions. It just doesn't bother me anymore. And it obviously doesn't bother BMW either as they have done zero to try and fix it.

Nothing to fix, so why would BMW bother?

High performance pads squeals, one can anytime replace them with lesser pads that wont squeal, but would run in other issues, like brake judder. Prefer the squeal over judder

Do you live in the U.K.? Reality is the winters there are not easy coast US winters. Not sure but think so those in winter regions with a lot of salting. My issue started after salt touched the discs a few times.

I’ve had my F90 since last July and I have not had too many squeals until lately - but it is very random per se. I have 3400+ miles so far and I do tend to brake rather hard because I like to speed a bit and they brake them rather hard when coming to a light. I do this not only to heat them up, but, primarily just like to feel all those horses get her up to speed!

Ya, I will likely switch the pads next winter tire to summer change. Thx Greer for the point to the right thread!

In the cold with plenty of salt on the road more aggressive braking does not minimize any squeal. You can try all you want but it will be in futility.

In the summer I would agree that it works very nicely.

CCBs will be on my next vehicle.

Yep UK, we don't have the extreme temperature changes which may contribute.

Has anyone actually had BMW fix this issue? Or are they still hiding behind the "this is normal" BS line....until we magically get aftermarket pads and the issue goes away immediately.

My M550i didn't have this issue, either (not the same brakes but still upgraded brakes versus normal G30 models).

I feel your pain. I didn't want to drive my M5 anymore because of the unbearable brake noise. I started to drive my F150 more and more. My brakes started to sound like a freight train when you first press the brakes then it turned into an old school bus braking sound when coming to a complete stop. For almost $120K car, the dealer said perfectly normal. I finally took advice from others on this board and got the Porterfield Racing Brake Pads for the front. Parts and labor was about $700, but worth every penny. Just replace the pads and stop driving your self insane dealing with noise and BMW altogether.

Totally, I get it. I was just making a tongue-in-cheek kind of comment. It's just kind of funny because it seems like a lot of times questions get opposite answers on the forum. I appreciate you sharing your experience with a newb like me Trevor.

John, can I join that list... of exceptions to the rule

The first few thousand miles I had no problems, but 16 months in with 9k miles they now make an awful squeal when trying to stop slowly in town traffic on my daily commute.

They're not a problem on the open road, or after a good drive.

It must be our climate "oop narth" (from you anyway).

They shouldn't. Hardly anyone with ceramics on here or with another model has squealing whereas hardly anyone with steels on here doesn't have squealing.

Bottom line is the "fix" is to spend $700 on changing the brand new OEM pads (which from the post indicate these new pads didn't even fit for awhile)....which is ridiculous.

Bottom line, no $110k car should sound like a junker when it comes to brakes.

My whole intention of this thread was not to say the squealing was unusual....but to highlight the ridiculousness that this has been going on with BMW M models for like 15 years now with no improvement in the stock pads.
