You can add me to the list. Either it turns on and then immediately hesitates like it’s not getting enough fuel and then recovers normal idle RPM. Or it turns over and runs for a second and goes off. Happens every 10-15 times I drive. I wish BMW would issue a recall because I mentioned this to my dealer and they couldn’t diagnose it.

Just posting here as there are multiple threads on this and want to make it easy to see the volume of people experiencing the same issue.

I wonder if there is any connection to this issue and this other thread. Anyone else with both issues?

Welp, I finally gave up and took the car to the dealership. Of course the thing started fine every time for them. ¯\_(O_o)_/¯ Guess I am going to try the fuel cleaner mentioned above and see if that helps.

Had this happen to me about a year after use. 24K miles. I took it into service and they replaced the fuel pump saying the pressure was too low at the initial startup.
They installed a gauge to monitor the fuel pump pressure when it was stalling or dropping RPMs at startup, and found the pressure to be too low during those times through this method. They replaced the pump and monitored the pump pressure again and it was all good. I think you might be better off just having the pump replaced. |

I just wanted to give a quick update on my experience here so far with the Lucas lubricant. So after the dealership said they couldn't find anything I ordered this stuff (link above) off Amazon. I have run through 2 tanks of gas so far (using the Lucas lubricant in both tanks), and the car has not died on startup. The dealership even agreed that since they can't reproduce the problem that the Lucas lubricant was good stuff and worth trying.

Fuel pump is most likely the problem. It was a issue from the gecko.

Just a general assumption/question... could it be shitty gas quality?

I had both high and low pumps replaced about 2 weeks ago and haven’t had issue since. Yet. Can’t say whether was low or high but the combo so far works.

Thought I was but no. They couldn't reproduce issue so will have to wait. Should be a recall on this as so many reporting it.
