You are right! My bad, with OPF incl. burbles and pops... found one - pre July '19.

Having said that. My 2020 doesn't pop.. it does burble some though but not enough to really bother me. But then again I haven't put exhaust and DP's on it yet
That's odd, my 2020 M5 base pops like crazy, depending on how I drive it and if the exhaust valves are open. Hell it pops a lot in my neighborhood even when I keep the speed below 25 MPH

Yea, that's odd for sure. Mine is pretty mellow unless I gun in say 2nd gear up to about 6k and then just let off the gas completely then I'll get some burble. But, not much for pops. Hope it stays this way

Both of mine were/are in the popping and thunder rumble camp—higher rpms and then letting off is the surest way to get it and when it goes, it'll definitely unnerve pedestrians.

Interesting on how they vary so much. I'm curious how much of it is our individual perception on what's a loud burble/pop or not? lol

Real curious how it's gonna sound next week with Kellers/Remus on it :P

I scared a guy in a pickup truck back into his lane on my way home from the dealer the day I got the car by down shifting and putting my foot to the floor. It was loud as hell and after I passed him I could see him jerk back into his lane.

I'll get some pop when heavy on the throttle as it shifts as well.

As someone said, I am from the states and unaffected, but Hockeytyme is as well and he's not getting the noise I am. It is a 2020 so I do have the new dash, which I like, and the new IDrive, which I also like, but I have nothing to compare against as this is my first BMW.

It's probably just our different perceptions. What you perceive to a loud pop might be a minor pop to me. I have heard some lounds ones online is mine is mellow. But, I have had a lot of modded cars and some race cars so I'm used to really loud cars and so far this is not.

I guess the question now is - if I go to my UK dealer and get the software updated to the latest version on my September 2018 M5, does the latest software now code out the pops and bangs for all cars or just the 2020 models?

That's annoying, I have an early software that only burbles.

I think the early Comp models like mine had a bit more sound added.
Then later this year the silencer was added.
EU bull sh*t interference.

what is wrong ? care to explain ? so your car with March 19 production does not have OPF ? and nobody said anything about the car not being loud , mine was built after July 18 and before july 19 and it's loud too so i don't really understand what your point was.

His car most definitely has OPF, all comp M5s have OPF. Not all comps have the burble/pops - post July or August 2019 are quieter. I don't think updating the software on a pre- July/August 2019 car will remove the burble/pops.

You quoted ALL Comp M5's were after Mid 2019, they were built earlier in 2019 as I have one potentially you can still buy one of the earlier one's.
Mine has Pops and bangs, not that it's a big deal for me.
