The obsession for cars to be more environmentally friendly is getting in car enthusiasts nerves. Just banned fossil fuel burning internal combustion engines and switch to EVs full time. EVs are being charged with electricity produced by fossil fuels in certain countries anyways

Maybe there is a solution for the missing sound effects. I recently had a conversation with a local tuner. He said he can possibly bring back the sound effects (crackles, grumble). I'm not an ecu tune expert but in his opinion there somewhere seems to be a so called "back-to-stock" button which will bring back the old software of the pre July 2019 production modell. Hope somebody can say something to that.

That should be possible ,yes. It will void your warranty though.

I'm guessing he was using a metaphor. There's no single button that would flash your ECU.

Right.. I was more asking if there is such a button in the world of ecu tune software, as I'm a total newbie to ecu tunes..

Maybe we have some tuners here which are aware of these terms

Just found a video of an EU-Car with Id7. It doesn't seem like a simple ecu change to me, there are not just missing crackles and pops even the overall sound seems much quieter. Compared to the EU id6 car there is a lot noise and aggressiveness missing. I'm wondering if thats possible just with an ecu change.. In my opinion they changed something in the exhaust maybe a larger GPF or something.

Can somebody confirm that these two models share the same exhaust?

I'd like to know if the one in the first video is actually in sport plus with open flaps... because this one sounds a bit better (M8 review from Carwow):

- watch from 6:47.

It is different than before... could be worse... I'll need to hear in person.

Here's the translation from the statement from M GmbH:

Quote:
The new noise emission legislation presents sporty vehicles with a new reality. We take the legislator's demand for noise reduction very seriously and thus contribute to a better quality of life in cities.

Technical measures such as the introduction of gasoline particulate filters (OPF) into the exhaust system, which are necessary to comply with the stricter emissions legislation, lead to a change in acoustics due to physical constraints.

In the future, changing regulatory frameworks for noise emissions in Europe and other markets (UN / ECE) will lead to volume reductions.

Regardless, both sporty-positioned vehicles in our product portfolio and M automobiles will continue to have a brand-typical, sporty, emotional sound compared to the competition.

I can confirm that the car in the video was in Sport+ with flaps open.

Still wondering what they did to quieten the car down like this .. for me it's not just software in regard of the cracks and pops, there must be further changes in the exhaust /gpf to quieten the car down like that ..

Funny how a Merc with OPF still growls and burbels... just a bit tamed and deeper... so... really asking myself what BMW did... so... we'll have to go for an aftermarket solution... or there will be an MPE for the OPF version.

I'd be quite happy to lose the pops and bangs myself.
In the minority it seems though.

I would not mind losing them... if the sound was beefier.

There won't be an MPE for OPF cars. OPF and the EU emissions/sound regulations are the reason MPE isn't offered in EU.

Well then... you can get an Eisenamann slip on for the OPF... legal...

True, but it will never sound as good as MPE or any other non-OPF car with an aftermarket exhaust.

I've ordered the Akrapovic slip on myself, will see how it sounds in a few weeks once it arrives.

True, but for sure better than stock.

For now my mate at BMW is looking for a new pre OPF M5 Comp for me.

Hope he'll find a suitable configuration and that I'll soon become an owner.

Hey Nikolov, would you mind posting a sound clip? I presume slip on = axle back exhaust? I've recently picked up a 2020 M5C and trying to work out my options on exhausts.. based in EU so missing the cracks and pops. I wouldn't void my warranty to get these back but think the exhaust could be a bit more beefy. My only options are a axle back unit like Akrapovic / Remus etc and no sounds clips out there for axle back 2020 models! Cheers..

Like i posted in other thread.....

The car i had in test drive was ID6

And this is the car with ID7 as are all cars AFTER 1.7.2019

And yes BOTH are competition both were in SPORT PLUS and filmed with the same camera. Waiting for BMW to see how we can resolve the issue as none of the BMW dealers had a clue that BMW changed the sound with ID7

The more I hear the ID7 the more it sounds as if the downpipe broke... you hear the sound... but it does not sound as if it's coming from the exhaust... sounds distant... as if it were a car next to this one...
