Just took delivery (1st Sept.) of my M5 Comp. still running in with 500 miles to date, however I note when I start the car the dashboard shows an "M" logo only and does not have the "M" with COMPETITION written below it, why would be this be on a competition car?

Every other competition car I have seen welcomes you with the M logo underneath which is the word competition, seems to make sense on a competition variant.

Also my exhaust seems quiet, no crackles, pop's or bangs as per the many YouTube reviews out there. Am I to assume both issues wll be addressed at the running in service (1200 miles)?

Can anyone comment or help clarify, should I challenge my dealer on this or not?

Mine says Competition when starting. As well as crackled and popped from day 1 (sport+ & D3/S3)

Have you got the car in sport + for the cracks and bangs ?. Your car will never sound like the youtube videos from other countries, because you have OPFs fitted to the exhaust. What will make you smile though is, put the throttle in sport +, and give it quite a big footfull when stationary, it will crack and bang then. Cant remember about the start up wording.

Thank you both, very interesting. I have just been over to the dealership and they think my competition model car has been loaded with the standard M5 software!

I drove over there and made them compare my car with another competition model in their stock and there is a clear difference in both the M competition logo on the dash and exhaust sound. So seemingly I have invested in a product I have not yet received!

I hope they resolve it, they are working on it now but without a clear path on what to do having not experienced it to date. I will update.

That sounds really strange. Did they check what software the car is running, to say it was the wrong map etc ?.

My comp is getting decidedly Louder, started in sport+ at a car show Sunday and loads of onlookers commented how great it sounded.
Done 3500 miles now so loosening up a bit.

Go to Mdecoder.com and decode your VIN. It'll tell you whether you have a Comp or not which would be a first if you were scammed.

Thank you all, the car is certainly a Competition via the dealership, VIN etc... so I do not believe I have been scammed. They have now defined the issue which is software, my competition car has been loaded with the standard M5 software limiting both performance and exhaust noise. I guess at this stage 600 miles into running in its not a disaster however clearly needs resolving now.

BMW (Sytner Nottingham) are reviewing the next steps with BMW and I expect a call today with a plan to resolve so I will update you all once a plan of action is defined.

Im pretty shocked that a mistake like this could be made by BMW, as its quite a big issue ?. Please keep us informed of progress, and outcome.

In Norfolk mate, 30 miles from the show, mine was the only F90 M5 Comp at the show and got a lot of attention.

Agreed - it's as if the car skipped any QC inspection at all. "4 wheels? Check. Ok, good to go!"

My competition doesn't say anything besides M5 on the dash. It's definitely a CP model. Anyone have photo evidence showing competition on the dash? Or is it just before start and not after?

It's just on the welcome/splash screen that shows up in the instrument cluster.

I do. Send me a few things you'd like to see since the mods are wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more than cosmetic. I'll improvise and video some other key changes, too, but a short list would help, e.g. Driver Profile changes, nav. system changes, gauge cluster, head-up display, regressions (lost features), totally new features, etc.
